Finished up my wideband install today!!!

Ok so i started it a few weeks ago and got it working, but i just got the whole thing finished up today.

I ordered the PLX M-300 Unit. I dont really need data loging, at least not after the RTec 2.0 comes out, but i did want the LED readout on the unit so that it would be easy to use on another vehicle if i need to. I also ordered the gauge that works with it, it was kinda pricey but it is of very good quality.

Mounted the main unit under the floorboard next to the cpu (so that it would be an easy route for the ECU tap in on the RTec and the gauge in my a piller gauge pod. Power comes from the lighter and presto i got precicion!!!!!

Quick evaluation for you. Many people have said that the LED on the main unit is very dificult to read in bright sunlight. They are right it is not very easy at all when its bright out. Also Being a 4 diget LED the numbers are changing VERY fast. The readings into the hundredths are nice but they do distract. I covered the last digit with tape for a day and it worked very nice

Now the gauge on the other had is VERY bright. NO PROBLEMS READING IT AT ALL EVEN WITH THE SUN RIGHT ON IT!!!! I havent tested it in the dark, but im afraid it might be a bit bright for night driving. I'll know in about 10 mins cause im going to give it some more testing

The "standard" narrow band lights on the gauge are very nice. only one is lit up at a time and are very easy to read at a glance. Range of the gauge is 19.9 to 10.0 (not sure the range on the control unit, I know that it will read "lean" and "air" but dont know about what point it stops and shows "rich" ) and shows 10.0 when i crank the starter, which im guessing is because it is cutting out the controler circut, then reads 14.7 for a short while when it is warming up, and after a few seconds it is acurate.

Over all i am very pleased with both units, and PLX's support staff is very helpful as well.

Hope this helps out anyone who is thinking of buying one.

Augie

PS i am thinking of doing a right up for this, if there is enough interest in it i will.

I love the techedges for datalogging, they're capable of quite a fair bit of various things (reading map sensors/EGT/coolant/tps/etc)

$329 for contoller with display and O2 sensor.
$130 for gauge (not needed)

I talked to the guys at DigitalTuning about wich wideband to get and they recomended the PLX because alot of the others are none linier. Alough I though about the techedge i finnaly decided on this unit.

If the dataloging was something that i needed i would really have thought about the R(?)-500 model as it has lots of bells and wistles. Even thought about getting itjust because it looks to be such a nice unit. but i woulda still wantded to mount it next to the ECU and i think that it woulda overheated under there as it has a fan built into it and i think there wouldn't be enough are.

Yeah i know, but the R500 itself is producing heat. "They recomed mounting it a way that the fan is not blocked. My logic is that there is very little air space down there so it would probably just keep reusing its own hot air. Figured why take the chance.
