Finished The FC

Well all i know is that this was alot of work for a 17 year old to take on (ill never do it again) but i didn't give up and it paid off. my fc is finally done aside from a few small things. i bought the car from some hippy guy who pretty much ruined the car. the motor ran like garbage and the body was terrible. i bought the car in april for 1200 bucks. from then until now ive made about 30 trips to the junkyard and put well over 1800 in my own money earned from Sea World San Diego making 7.50 and hour and from then until now has been a struggle. i did all the work myself too. i have alot of time on my hands because im doing independent studies. I bought the 91 TurboII motor for 1300 w/ 30,000 km's complete. i started the swap back in late september ( i was 16 at the time). i ran into so much stuff that kept kicking me in the ***. i broke 2 Lower intake manifolds, pulled the turbo off like 4 times to replace all the lines and gaskets and i swapped the harness and injectors from my old 87 TII motor. that swap was just finished about 2 weeks ago. During those 2 months of swapping the motor i hunted down junkyard to junkyard just to find some bumpers and molding. prices were decent but still pushing my budget but in the end i believe it was all worth it. The car was transformed w/ a little spray paint, blood and sweat. me and my friend customed the foglight bulb to light up yellow. I can't wait to finish the little things such as the transmission cross member and blown front diff mount so that i can drive the thing. please leave comments whether its flame or not i just want to know what ppl think. it may look like any ordinary s5 TII but its come along way to get there.

heres the link of what it looked like at first when i brought it home from the guy

Heres what it looked like after a quick front bumper swap and some spray paint

And heres the final product of all my hard work

and heres some pics of the intake manifold that broke twice

You really need to re-install the fan shroud..... Cooling is very important and without it you aren't really sucking cool air through the radiator you are just blowing hot air around.....

It apepars from the fuzzy pictures that you broke the manifolds because you didnt completely remove the old gasket. That **** has to be COMPLETELY gone no matter how hard and brittle it is. Otherwise (as you demonstrated), it will break. You're putting pressure on it over an uneven surface and its cast aluminum so theres NO flex whatsoever, so if theres even a chunk of gasket left, its gonna crack.

its a damn nice car though, i expect mine to be pretty similar when its finally done, hope you enjoy it!

I'm 17 too, and have an '87 TII. Its an awesome machine when it finally runs. I, like you, have a common high school job that pays in the 7.50 range. Shoot me a pm..... Its great to know that there are more 17 and 18 years on here. Thanks
Sam

Okay, first, congrats on your RX 7... I applaud you on your hard efforts and work like this at your age is pretty neat. Good job. Just wondering, what made you decide to spray paint your car white? lol It was GREEN! Did you ever consider black or perhaps another similar green?? haha Just wondering why it had to be white? Sorry, don't mean to be an *** because you have obviously done lots of work. You can go anywhere and do anything... don't mean to sound pessimistic... I would've just stuck with a darker color and think you would've have been a lot happier.

And to the guy that has borrowed 6.5k on a car that is probably 18 years old... I hope this isn't your daily driver... if it is, you may be learning an important lesson in personal finance very soon.

Gosh, I'm a hardass today.

Everybody have a nice day.

Josh

Im also 17 with an 88 TII. Just recently had to replace the turbo, so now im almost broke with no job. $7.50 an hour sounds good to me. And I cracked a rim, that I will end up spending the rest of my money on. Good work on your car though, looks great.

That is SO true! I got about 6k in my 90GXL (motor, tranny, suspension, brakes, wheels, tires & a whole bunch of nick nack stuff) and it is no way close to being finished. I make $31.00 an hour and still find it hard to set aside enough money to do all the stuff I want to do! So, keep up the good work and stay dedicated!
