Talking find of the week for my FC

my friend work at the local VW / Mazda dealer for some time and the parts guys there know we well. As of recent the Mazda dealer is going to the Ford building and they are bringing in Hyduias. (or however you spell it). So they are clearing out a ton of crap. so i got a call from my friend about a sunroof piece there, they said if i want i can have it.

so....

i got a GLASS replacement for my S4 FC in the box (from 86...) never opened. for free. this was an accesory you could buy made by I think Taratoga or something like that (its downstairs on the box). but has a mazda OEM number....

good find eh?

Glass sunroofs are so awesome. I had never seen one on an FC before until my friend got this completely mint, fully loaded 88 T2 with 100k original miles on it from the original owner.

Nicely done, I paid about $300 for mine.

<3 it, though. Gets a bit hot in the summer, though, as if the FC didn't have enough greenhouse effect going on with the enormous hatch.

Did you look at it yet?

Open it and take pics.

I have a Dealership option glass sunroof in My FC... It's not power, it's a pop up one that comes out if I wanna take it out.

Pop ups were simply installed aftermarket and generally not by the dealer (excepts for in the case of the 89-90 GTUs- note the small "S"- not to be confused with the 89-90 GTU- which for some reason many a dealer took to their local sunroof shop and had a pop up put in). Anyway pop up sunroofs were not part of the Mazda Finish Line product line of dealer installed options, and not a true dealer installed "option" but rather a sometimes dealer installed accessory.

In the 80's you could get a pop up installed everywhere. They were a very common aftermarket thing.

Thats probably it then.

It's on the original dealer Invoice from 87 though, along with some optional aftermarket wheels. I can take a pic if you want to see.

dealer invoice or window sticker, or dealer window sticker??

this is the Mazda window sticker for everywhere but the south... it would be listed here if it was a dealer or Mazda installed part:

The people that make (made?) them are called Saratoga, they're in New York. My 10AE came with one as well. I had the original box, with mazda part # and all when I bought my FC.

You win Icemark.

They were Dealer Options, like I though, but I guess that means they weren't installed by the dealer but an alternate shop.

Saratoga Tops was ONE of the sources, the other being Pacific T-Top. Saratoga Tops is still in business, but they have relocated to NC. When they moved, they lost/abandonned/destroyed the molds and dies used in production of their products from the 80's. NO they are not interested in or want to talk to anyone about remaking sunroofs for RX-7's.

Pacific T-Tops is defunct, no more/zip/zilch/nada

This concludes tonights FC Glass Sunroof History Lesson

Yep, that is a dealer window sticker...

Think of it as a mark up sticker...

almost no dealers use those anymore on the west coast, except for when a brand new highly desired car comes out.

If it is the factory glass roof, I'll trade you for a CF one or buy it off you outright!

And we don't even have to worry about shipping
