Finally got engine apart - now I have some questions about engine condition

This doesn't look like what I thought chrome flaking was, but I guess I was never to sure of what it was. Do you have any good pics of it for me to compare to?
I got another pic that shows it better. This camera isn't great for very close shots, so most of them dont turn out well. You can see on the edge where it looks like theres kinda dirt and grime build-up. Its like this on a good 1/3 of this side of the housing, but to lesser degrees in some spots. Also, I think this housing only has 25k on it.

I thought the burr at the edge of the apex seal groove was from the wore-out three piece seal flopping around before coming out. It seems, on my rotors, to be worse on the one that quit working (rear) than the other (front).

man, that is MINOR chrome flaking. it is FINE to reuse. they will build good compression, 115-120psi. It is clear those housings are not too old or they would exhibit much more wear than that.
I have a nice writeup that is going on the site once I redesign it. It is in MS word. I myself am not sure how to transfer the picture files and the main document in such a way that they both show up properly on the web. I will send all the files or host them if someone else wants to post the stuff up in a readable format.

Also, I seem to remember someone saying you could use super high-grit sandpaper on the housings. Is that ok or a bad idea?

Since you're really in the habit of second guessing me, I'll indulge you one last time....that is minimal wear and fine to use. Compression is made and affected by wear between the intake port and the spark plugs, you can get by with a bit of wear near the exhaust half as long as there are no high spots. I would use that housing all day long.
I would not touch it with sandpaper, though anything over 800 would not damage it...there is no reason to do so.
