Ok guys, you have been alot of help so far... Now this is the problem I have run up against... Started yesterday, for some reson my Rx7 wants to idle at 2000Rpm... Let me describe in detail what happens, keep in mind that this happens if I start the car with clutch engaged OR disengaged...

Car starts and revs up to 2700 or 3000 rpm for 2 to 3 seconds...
Idle falls to 800Rpm or so...
After being moved out of the hangar (20 feet or so in reverse...) Idle goes to 1300ish...
Then after being driven around the tarmac for a few minutes, Idle stays at 2000 Rpm.


Car has plenty of power low and high, does not sound too funny...
Only funny sound it is making is from the clutch, when clutch is engaged I get a weird wobble sound that is not vibrating the car in any way just a wobble sound... (Best way I can describe it.) However the clutch operates well and feels like it has plenty of life left on it...

LAST Thing... This ALL started AFTER I repaired a broken wire to the 4" x 3" x 1" silver box that was located behind the glove compartment... Still kinda fuzzy on what the HELL that box is and nobody can honestly tell me what it is... Hell even the guy at my local Mazda dealership scratched his neanderthal skull and then emphadically proclaimed that he had "No clue what that 'lil box does..." Friggin morons...

Your car should rev up to 3000 rpm on a cold start, this is the cold start assist i think it's called, but that's normal.... however it should stay there until the car gets to op. temp. or you get it into gear. Check the TPS (throttle positioning sensor), that's probably what anyone would tell you, the idle isn't pulsing though is it?

I believe this "box" you speak of is the ECU.

Depending on what wire you had to replace, and what other wires may have suffered the same fate, largely anything could happen. I imagine a high idle could be one of those things. It all depends on what info the ECU is either getting incorrectly or not at all.

Idle occasionally surges, but not always...
and I thought the ECU was by the fuse panel on drivers side... this box has to be somthing else than ecu... where is TPS and how to adjust?

The ECU is under the passenger side foot well (its a cover panel). What that box is you speak of is not something I have seen before.

The box by the fuse box on the driver's side is the CPU and controls horn functions among other things. On the passenger's side, under the floor mat behind a metal shield is the ECU. What you described sounds like the ECU.
Surging idle can nearly always be fixed by correctly adjusting the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). The TPS is located on the front of the throttle body. Refer to the Fuel section of the Factory Service Manual on its adjustment.
