Wow. It's an S5 LIM. And I'll post plenty of pics so that everyone can see exactly what it looks like upside down, backwards, inside out, but it doesn't matter.

I'm going to contact the seller and see what he has to say about all of this.

fc3s91 03-10-09 11:27 AM

WOW just WOW!!!. Again guys if you want a true quality part I need a prepaid order of 10 to get started. This show what quality parts other people are putting out. Heres a link of what the part looks like and just ask other members on this forum about my parts. http://rbautosports.com/index.php?ac...od&productId=4 . There should be about 25 spacers floating around. I know its more than the greece guy but you wont have issues like this.
Thanks Robert

I have contacted the seller and asked him to view this thread and leave his impression.

The photos in this thread look crude at best..
FC3S91... I don't think your allowed to link to a product without being a vendor...

I've been busy trying to get over a hurdle.. I'm focusing on keeping the UIM/LIM Unmodified.

It's easy to cut a corner or two and let the buyer grind away at their UIM, but if they wanted to grind their UIM, they might as well fill and shape it so there is no need for the adapter.

I dunno guys, Do you want to grind? If so I'll make a couple of the adapters below. They should also be reasonably cheap. I'm forecasting ~130 Possibly shipped depending on some variables.

What I want to know is how to we are supposed to get nuts on the two studs that are now too close to the UIM runners.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...0rrrrrrrrr.jpg

This has turned out to be a hassle.

It seems like there are plenty of people looking to make money off of this.......

JWteknix 03-10-09 02:52 PM

i bent my studs outward and used smaller the stock nuts. this is a problem u are supposed to have, its NOT to due to the fault of the manufacturer

pics?

couldn't you just trim the metal around the stud? I imagine it's decently thick...

JWteknix 03-10-09 02:59 PM

greenbud no one ever said it was gonna be easy!!!lol
you could, im lazy.
I just put the nuts on and tightened them down bam!!!

this thread is pretty entertaining...all of this work for what? a "better looking" UIM? seems like a huge waste of time/money IMO.

Trots*88TII-AE* 03-10-09 03:39 PM

Last I checked a dyno verified some gains. I agree there are better "bang for your buck" mods, but I wouldn't discount this as a complete waste of time/money.

boosted1205 03-10-09 03:49 PM

I bought fc3s91 FD adapter awhile ago. The finish and quality of that is way better than what is pictured.
I don't know why you guys trying to make your own. I'll post a picture if I can find it.

I don't know but It seems you are doing the same thing. Let see you quality work.:icon_tup:

NJGreenBudd 03-10-09 04:08 PM

The thing is that the ad made it seam a lot easier than it really is. I am not one to turn down a challenge though, look the past 3 years of my TII project.

I understand that the studs have to end up where they are, regardless of the spacer. The way the S5 LIM matches up to the FD UIM requires that the UIM holes are elongated. I just didn't realize these two were going to be so close to the runners. I can grind some of the metal away and I'm sure I'll get it squared away but this wasn't something that I had forseen.

The FD UIM isn't even why I am doing this swap, I really wanted the FD throttle body, but the FD UIM is a nice upgrade as well. This is part of a series of upgrades that I am doing including v mount intercooler, e-fan, alcohol injection. If I was concerned about wasting time and money I wouldn't be building a $20,000 FC that only gets driven a few weekends out of the year.

All in all, this spacer works with a bit of grinding and cursing.

50 ft/lbs of torque in high end... more than a little.

I beleive the dyno sheet is posted on page 1 or 2. A member posted his findings in a thread about 2 years ago. His dyno sheet has been floating around ever since.

meh. is that a stock motor? spacer used or no spacer? same tune with and without? i'm still skeptical. either way, i wouldn't spending the time and money to make it work...just my opinion.

I don't remeber the details, but i do know it was the same tune. The guy had a 2 pg post about it when he did it, so it's around here somewhere.

I will eventually do this mod. If you shop smart, you can get the FD UIM and TB very cheap. I already have a TB adapter.

For me, the looks, and extra 50 ft/lbs are worth it alone. But better air flow in the intake "seals the deal".

What else are you going to do? Custom intake? that will be more $$, and require loads of testing.

EDIT**
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ht=FD+UIM+Dyno
It took me a few looks at the dyno to see the results... there are like 5 different runs on that sheet.

i did show the picks to GREGORY the man who owns the SAFE DRIVE SERVICE store and he understund it with the first look, you can stop blame the item now,he is not gonna make more, there is only one left unsold but that's not a problem, from now you can return and buy the 220$-300$-400$ adapters...and as for all the guys who interested to make some adapters and sell them, stop speaking and start make them, pay them and after sell them,as GREGORY did...stop asking pre-orders,pre-pay and if anyone has the mesurements...he did make 20 and sell 19...but in ONE MONTH.10 in e-bay and 10 in greece.now he is making 10 for the s4 guys.

if you are not sure how to install it go to a blacksmith,it will not cost so much.and don't put it UPSIDE-DOWN!!!!

Oh snap!!

Okay, get this: I had it upside down. :facepalm2:

But, in my defense, I'd like to point out that the adapter in your pics is different than mine. The whole shape is different, see how yours is symmetrical and mine had one pointed end and one flat end. Well, if you look at the FD UIM it has the same flat side and pointed side. Look at what I mean:

Yours-
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...tachment-1.jpg

Mine-
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...d/101_6515.jpg

Which way would you guess is the correct way by the rough shape of the adapter and the UIM mounting surface?
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...d/101_6555.jpg
or
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...d/101_6554.jpg

It seemed like it should be oriented as shown in the second pic. But it's actually the first pic. I was seriously confused and there were no pics to look at the showed which way it faced.

The only thing that is affected by having it one way or the other is that small difference on the LIM ports. Luckily it was such a small amount of grinding that it doesn't ruin anything, actually still seems perfectly flush with the spacer when flipped over the right way.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...d/101_6557.jpg
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...d/101_6558.jpg

So........ like you said, the port job was fine, the stud holes on the FD UIM are the only thing that needs to be modified. I appreciate the pics too, they help a lot.

Now everyone can make fun , "Hey! Remember when NJGreenBudd had the FD UIM adapter on upside down? What a riot!!"

:dunce:

FrankV702 03-10-09 09:04 PM

Damn, by the time you get finished, grinding, hacking, and what ever else needs to be done with this spacer, the FD UIM doesn't even look as good anymore. :/

I would have personally stuck with the adapter that fc3s91 has, but I'm a fan of the parts I put on my car looking as good as they function. :D

NJGreenBudd 03-10-09 09:15 PM

All you really have to do to the FD UIM is elongate the four holes. The spacer itself is actually fine in my newly formed opinion.

Does fc3s91's design not require the FD UIM holes to be ovaled? How does that work?

And thanks to ΝΙΚΟΣ for all your help and patience. I'm gonna go leave some good feedback on ebay for the spacer.

.

FrankV702 03-10-09 10:01 PM

I'm not sure what has to be done with the one from fc3s91. I just like the way it "flows" with the same curvature as the manifolds. I didn't like the way you have th grind off some of the material on the FD UIM to fit the nuts on, but then again, I'm a perfectionist about that type of stuff. If I'm walking thru my hallway and my rug is not parallel with the walls, it drives me NUTS! So I doubt I would've done it if I had to start grinding away the material like that to put a nut on..

There was a guy on here with a 20b widebody vert, rxx-7 or something? He had port matched, welded and grinded an FD UIM to the S5 LIM without an adapter. That looked awesome! I wish I would've bought it.

But glad you got it to work out.. and you're happy with it so that's what matters! :) :icon_tup:

NJGreenBudd 03-10-09 10:10 PM

Thanks man, this part took me longer due to my confusion but there is still lots to be done like the tps and omp. I do plan to continue to post the progress so as it happens so hopefully more posts will be about the topic instead of advertisements....

FrankV702 03-10-09 10:35 PM

So you're keeping the mechanical OMP? It shouldn't be to hard to get it working with the FD Throttle body. Keep posting them pics and progress! It's great info for people wanting to do this mod.

NJGreenBudd 03-11-09 09:24 AM

Well posts like those don't contribute much.

The gaskets should be here today for the new manifolds. I'll start taking the old S4 LIM, UIM, TB and TMIC off tonight when I get home. Hopefully I can at least get the manifolds on and start doing the little things this weekend. Then the new intercooler should arrive on Monday and I have to get rid of the mechanical fan so I can do my VMIC.

NJGreenBudd 03-13-09 08:20 PM

Update

So, I was able to get most of the work done on the UIM. I added some material to a couple parts of the UIM where it was too thin from moving the holes. I also ground down the UIM runners to accommodate some nuts. After a bit of trimming on the S6 UIM gasket we were able to get the whole thing assembled.

Added Aluminum-

I'm gonna swap the block off plates from my S4 LIM onto the S5 one cause they are much better looking and have smaller nuts, just to make it look a bit cleaner. I'm just glad it's all working out and the swap was able to be completed thanks to some help from the guys in Greece.

NJGreenBudd 03-15-09 08:20 PM

The project picked up some speed yesterday and today, I had to take off the turbo to swap LIMs, that was a pain. Hopefully someone can come out with the S4 to FD adapter cause having to swap LIMs is chore.

the Fd Throttle body will Hit the Tube when installing..mine does on Mock up.

NJGreenBudd 03-16-09 09:38 AM

The oil fill tube will be modified to clear the TB. I'll post as it happens.

JWteknix 03-16-09 11:17 AM

yea its a simple mod. this uim makes working on the injectors soo much easier with the adaptor. i have an extra 1/4inch on mine, and just removed and swapped injectors w/o taking off the uim thats nice

misterstyx69 03-16-09 06:33 PM

can the oil tube face "back"?.(towards the Firewall)?.
I actually Do not know how they go on originally, as I still have an N/A in the Car,and I am building an Engine By the " This Must go here.there is a hole for it" Technique!

here you have a couple of pictures of the installed FD filler tube, everything fits fine and i even had room to replace the stock oil filler cap for a rotor shaped one.I used the stock bottom part of the the FD oil filler tube(is a pain in the ass get it of the center iron)and the PLASTIC FD upper part.I dont know if you will have spacing, clearance issues because mine was done without the spacer.

So I took the tube out of the block and cut two inches out of the lower pipe, rewelded it so it would clear the FD TB. I was pleased with the outcome.
