FD Transmission on FC?
Hey guys,
I was wondering if an FD Transmission would work on an FC?
What would I need to change? Bellhousings and..?
Please let me know!
Thank you.

It will. It's a popular mod in Japan because it's so much easier to get FD parts than FC parts over there. I don't know the details but I believe you have to run some sort of adapter plate.
Perhaps somebody else will chime in with more knowledge.

there's no real benefit to doing the swap. the pull type clutch creates problems for the swap and isn't a popular clutch style.
yes you can do it. all you need is to swap the FC TII tailhousing onto the FD transmission so it mounts to the chassis. then all you need is the clutch, PP, throwout, fork, slave, and custom hose.
then when you're done, you basically have what you started with, just configured slightly differently. if you go with the other methods you're stuck with a solid mounted transmission and a cheese grater sound under your ***. don't be like all these other dickwads trying to make a racecar out of it if it isn't.

adding to that, there is zero benefit to running the FD transmission. the FC TII transmission is equally as strong and even less prone to breaking the 5th gear syncro with the rather notchy FD shifter assembly. the FD clutch fork is problematic, the clutches more expensive and then the mounting issue if you don't swap the tailhousing another stupid move. i won't even go into how rediculous it is to release the clutch before pulling the transmission out is(although easy for the experienced i still feel dumb fishing in there with a screwdriver and flashlight).

Thanks for the input guys.
Reason why I was asking is that I found a couple FD Transmissions for pretty cheap. It's hard to find another S5 TII Transmission.
The current S5 TII Transmission I have is grinding on 5th gear.
How much would it be do rebuild the transmission or fix the syncros?

if it's just 5th gear a tranny shop should be able to replace the 5th gear syncro for about $250-300. still way cheaper than messing with the FD trannies. you'll be in for a new FD clutch as well so you won't be saving any money(the FC clutch will not work).

You forgot one part you need to grind down the input shaft 1/4 of inch for the motor to be flush with the bell housing. The same concept when ever use swap a rotary into a b2000 and use b2000 transmission. If you're a perfectionist you could also interchange the input shaft from FD to t2 on the FD transmission. I've done this swap twice...
Buddy of mine has a FD, turned out some previous owner actually switched bellhousings, probably to get a cheaper, simpler clutch.
So he is running a 13b-rew, fc bellhousing and clutch, de transmission.
So you should be able to swap bell housing and tailshaft and mount it like stock.
But.. like everyone said already, the FC trans is stronger..
But, the first question here should have been: do you have a TII or N/A?
The N/A tranny does not have a removeable bellhousing, and swapping FD tranny into FC will involve the same steps as a N/a to TII swap, which is just a shitload of work..

yeah, i forgot that the bellhousings can be swapped. i should have known because i did a reverse swap which was swapping the FD transmission center section and tail housing while switching the FC bellhousing for the FD one to work with his pull type Exedy twin disc clutch on the FC engine.
the TII trannies aren't stronger, they simply just don't eat syncros as easily due to the longer shifter throw(more difficult to mis-shift).
