FD Exhaust manifold on FC
FD Exhaust manifold on FC
I was wondering if it was possible to use the aftermarket FD turbo manifolds on the FC chassis. There are so few upgrades available it just seems like it would be a little easier than having to have a manifold fabricated and go that route.
Chances are it won't work. The lower intake manifold on the 3rd gen engine is tucking in farther towards the engine, leaving more clearance for the turbine housing of a single turbo. The only way a fd manifold would fit if it placed the turbo infront of the lower intake manifold.
Clearances aren't the issue; you can't use the FD LIM because the ports don't match up with the engine. You can adapt the FD UIM to the S5 LIM with a bunch of match-porting or an adaptor plate, but not to the S4 LIM.
Ignore the above nonsense, I thought we were talking intake manifolds. My bad...
What 1Revvin7 said is right, the LIM sits tighter to the block so, there's more clearance to fit a turbo. The exhaust manifold will bolt up fine but you'll be more limited with your turbo selection.
