The FC chassis really never stops impressing me, I'll be honest. Mazda did one HELL of a job back in the 80s, and the FD and RX-8 are even more of the same goodness.

Now, I know the FC can 'handle' on tires and with the right underpinnings, but when Kukri's v8 swapped FC out autocrossed a Z06 AND a STi I really saw just what this chassis is capable of.

Does anyone have any kind of numbers? Like, say, on a skidpad, slalom, Gees, etc? The anecdotal evidence of whooping on those two big boys AT AN AUTOCROSS speaks volumes to me.... the ultimate ability of this car with a powerful engine, tires, and an aero kit is probably ungodly if tuned right.

Damn, Mazda... you guys werent kidding around when you felt like making a sports car.

I'm not tring to downshoot you but I have out run a modded Z06 and an sti at the autocross and I was running on crappy tires and 15 year old suspension. And this was only my third event. What I am tring to say that it all comes down to driver. The common breakdown is 15% car, 15% tires, and 70% driver. A great example is there is a local guy here who races H stock in an 88 integra. The only thing done is good tires and usually gets me by 2 or 3 seconds. Granted he has been doing it since he got the car new in 88 and this is my first year.

Well, the FC is still a good car. Kukri must just be one hell of a driver, cos it WAS his first time :P

True it IS a good suspension set up. Even with "only" 146hp on the vert, the balance, handeling, was great on a 120k suspension. In fact only on the "straight aways" was there a wish for more hp. Otherwise in the turns it handled excellent. Going for upgrades. Mazda did a excellent job from putting on 4pots, light rims, suspension, ect. There isn't any one area that I could fault this car as a daily driver or weekend autocrosser. One could spend most of the time in second gear

auto isnt about power. Response, Response, Response, is what you want from your car, You have to know what it will do under certain loads. The guys that win know their cars. Tires and suspension help as well, but as some of you guys were saying, Its all driver
