i was reading fc3spro.com's info on blow-off valves and i found this...

"The stock BOV (or CBV as Mazda calls it) is only efficient with the stock boost levels."

since i have the stock turbo, am i suggested stick to the stock BOV?

cuz they said...
"If you're running a larger turbo or more than 10 psi of boost,
we recommend to go with a larger (aftermarket) BOV to prevent damage from compressor surge. "

You'll probably be fine running the stock BOV, even if you have the boost turned up. You will get compressor-surge, but it's not a HUGE deal... Just don't expect your turbo to last 200k miles.

So you have no BOV at all on your car? I noticed in your sig you have a 13BT. The stock BOV is mounted in between the up-pipe and TID with the "blow off" plumbed back into your intake system.

If you want a stock one, look in the classifieds section. If there isn't one listed contact sec gen 87, I'm sure he's got one or two laying around.

 

How can the stock BOV be damaged and if it is damaged, can it keep you from boosting properly? I've had trouble hitting over 2psi on my stock '87 TII after a day at autocross, something audibly popped and apparently since then I haven't been hitting proper boost levels. I've checked the turbo, hot and cold sides, it spins fine and there's virtually no play; I've checked the whole intake system for leaks, all leaks have been fixed; BAC valve and bypass air solenoid aren't working right yet though. I need a new BAC valve and one of the bypass air solenoid tubes is pinching (haven't been able to get a stock replacement yet, that's why it isn't perfect).
