I would look for one that someone else has modified a little.

Paint Job = $2000
exhaust = $800
tires = $400
Intake = $150
gauges = $100 and up
Boost computers =$400
etc.........
etc.........
etc.........

So a real bargain is one you dont have to fix. A bargain fixeruper will cost more than 2x as much in the end

Honestly that is pretty bad advice. If someone modded it, it usually means they ragged it out. So bad advice unless you personally know the previous owner.

Things to look for/do:
get a compression test prior to buying the car at a rotary specialist
mileage
maintence records
rust
little electrical bugs

Actually I don't think its such bad advice. Just make sure the previous owner knows his rotaries and keeps all the records of services. Ryde, is right tho about checking compression. How much is the dealer selling it for? For a decent STOCK 87 TII, I'd pay no more than $3000. Thats if the paint is good and interior is good. Otherwise, the price drops a lot.

Here's some things I can think of off the top of my head.
- Compression Check
- Ask how long it sat there
- Straight frame
- Check Oil Cooler for leaks
- Smog Check? (Pre-cats have been known to hollow out)
- Check Coolant Reservoir (If its a rusty brown color liquid, the radiator may be rusted)
- Wiper Logicon

I know there's more but my mind is so fried from school right now.

Good Luck

- Kevin

The non-turbo has considerably lower resale. I check these sites when I looking to value a car

http://www.kbb.com/
http://www.nada.com/
http://www.edmunds.com/edweb/

also see what they are going for on EBay, and the autotrader.

If you pay $2400 for that car dont look on Ebay or you'll get mad
