speakn of mpg i was thinkn about getn a intake and header in hopes of getn 20%-30% more mpg. monza claims there header adds like 13%mpg and i would think a intake would add another 7%. anyone buy header for a near stock rx7 and could tell if it helped? i know when i put on headers on my 72 beetle it got a few more mpg.....

Numerous N/A owners have reported mileage of 17/25 (2 of mine included). The match up is astounding. Numerous N/A owners have also reported a wide variety of lower numbers (often around 13mpg). So I'm inclined to believe that the N/A's real mileage is 17/25, and if your N/A is worse it's because something's wearing/worn out.
The stock gauge can't be THAT far off. I assumed Tyblat actually filled up twice and forget one, or some such mistake.
The curb weight for the Civic Si is officially 2,885 lbs. The official curb weight for an S4 is 2,626 lbs. The regular Civic is lighter (2740 for the manual).

Regular Civic. Automatic transmission. EX probably. Maybe cars can get higher than CR's numbers? Or maybe it depends which "city" you drive in. My FC can get 21mpg on a long enough stretch of a nice city road. But that's because of all the green lights. At that point the distinction between city and highway becomes fuzzy. What's worse is the long street I got 21mpg on: Even though it has the same stoplights, layout, etc. as the rest of my area, it's technically a highway. It has a 50mph speed limit.
Consumer Reports rates the automatic Civic at 18/43 mpg.
The EPA rates it about 30/40 mpg.
CR's rating for the Civic hybrid is 26/47. The EPA gave it 49/51. Drivers often report 40mpg, if careful. Only hybrids seem to go above 21mpg city.

well... all i can say is
i don't know what the hell you would have to do to a civic to make it get 20 mpg. my buddy has a 04 EX, and he basically floors it from light to light in the city. he still gets 28 mpg.
the lowest i got was 25 mpg during break-in. it was averaging 25-30, which was disappointing. once i passed about 8000 miles my mileage started getting better and better. now i hit between 32-38, which is right in the MPG estimates iirc. maybe CR was using a low mileage civic. they don't seem to start getting good mileage until they pass a certain threshold.

Best that I can remember with my 91 auto tranny coupe was 25 mpg on our first trip to Florida after my wife and I got married. A/C on the whole way, doing about 80mph on the interstate and the thing was packed to the roof with luggage and crap she was bringing along. Other than that, I haven't really kept out with mileage since it was my wife's daily driver unit we got her the 05 RX-8. Car is modifed with intake, pulley, mp, and catback.

Well this is all pretty interesting. I wonder how CR got such low numbers? They tested the Civic EX, btw: 140HP. There is also a 113HP Civic. The Si is 197HP. CR probably was using a low mileage Civic, though that's still not enough to do so poorly. Maybe they use a really lousy, slow, crowded city. In that situation my '7 gets 12mpg.
