FC-3s, money, and how much

So im trying to save my pennies for an FC-3s. i really want the 91 but w/e. so i wanna know how much is too much and for how many miles.

like

20,000 or less - 14.000

or w/e ya know what i mean.


iv'e also heard that the apex seals have a tendancy to die on you really quickly so should i change them when i get it? and should there be any other things i should look out for? any like mechanical. electrical, or such problems?

um well you can get a fc for cheep if you know what to look for. i gess a good question would be what are you looking to do with the car and/or do you want it to be N/A of turbo?

ok well i want one for some street racing mainly ya know a little drifting nothing serious just a cut up car. but honestly im gonna go for show comps and maybe a few drifting events but when it comes to the drifting ill tune for that later if money allows. like honestly i just want a nice running 7 that hasnt been beaten to **** by some dumbass who thinks burning his clutch is the same as smoking his tires. yea u guiys know what guys im talking about. but anyway. whats the limit i should look for on mileage? like maybe past 80,000 is too much you guys think? i dont really know. i mean ive studied up on rotories. but i dont know first hand ya know. i figure u guys would know about when and at what mileage i could expect what type of problems.

and i would prefer a none turbo cause i was gonna change the turbo anyway. havent decided on what turbo yet but that can wait till i come up with another 3k right?

well guys lemme know what you think any advice will help

Well I bought my 87 TII for $2500, with 85,000 miles on it. I've only been an owner for about a month now, and haven't really done anything to it yet. Make sure you know about any problems that the previous owner has had, mine has some normal electrical issues with the sunroof and windshiel wipers, but other than that its in really good condition.

Good luck on your search and sorry I can't offer anymore insight as I am new to this too.

its cool man u just did. electrical problems are something im gonna have to look out for. but it doesnt matter about the sunroof. cause just like another guy on this forum i wanna targa it. so w/e it would probably be better if didnt have a sunroof. but that is gonna definately be a pro job.

1. Get your flame suit on.
2. Your not gonna want to turbo an N/A, so that means you want a T2 model.
3. Expect to pay around $2,500 to 4k for a S5 T2.
4. Im not gonna get into the whole compression & seal thing with you, but make sure you get a compression test.
5. For a nice reliable(I know thats a crazy thing to say)13 second car/300hp(track wise) get ready to waste around $2k in parts.

Keep the racing on the track, it has no place on the street. Many people have been killed because of street racers and many street racers are rotting in jail, have had their cars confiscated and sold and I know of one here in western Canada that got deported because of it.

You may be prepared to take the risk of a potential crash, but what about the people you're going to be crashing into.

Just say no to street racing.

i see like 2 91 gtus wit 14000 to 22000 miles on them for like 6-8000$
i bought my 91 wit 115000miles and 4000 miles on rebuilt motor for 2500$ in fair conditions

Anything around 100-125k is fine but it really depends on how the previous owners treated it. It would be best to compression test the engine. If you have enough money just buy one that has a fresh rebuilt engine. And btw, you said you studied rotaries, but it seems you didn't study enough. You seem to barely know anything about ROTARY engines not ROTORY. and the apex seals are inside the engine. You cant just open it up and replace it, because then you should just rebuild it. And if you think you can just add a turbo to the NA and think it will be the same as the turbo model, then your wrong. You are gonna spend more money turbo'ing a NA and it also has higher compression so it wont last as long. What was your last car? Be prepared to be the mechanic and get ready to go through stress when it has problems. It is a great learning experience though, but thats if you are willing to learn. Its not as easy as you think but isn't as ridiculously hard as people make it seem. but its no small cake like a civic. The rx-7 isn't for the weak.

2. TII's turbo is decent enough for decent enough of power
3. Apex seals is inside ur engine (on the rotor) if u dont kno - requires an engine tear down
4. TII usually last from 100,xxx miles to 150,xxx miles on avg. some last longer depend on the owners care
5. compression check! compression check! compression check!
6. running TII pricing avg around $3 - 5k
7. n/a more reliable (IMHO is only matters of care and opinion)

keep browsing through the vast amount of information this forum has for you. To save trouble and money, I'd strongly suggest your first rotary-powered car to be a non turbo one. And even with that, keep learning about these cars. When you think you've learned enough, and know your FC like the back of your hand, MAYBE you're ready to go down the turbo road...maybe.

Yeah you should get ready to blow some money. I asked these kinds of questions too when I first got my car, and I heard everyone say "You will spend lots of money" and my response was "Naah, I won't drive it that hard." I've almost had to sell my T2 four times due to being broke. Don't ask questions and then ignore the responses you get, trust us. This is the reason you came to an enthusiast site, yes?

That said, if you do choose the path of the rotary, welcome!

Also you're going to **** when you experience the gas mileage of a 13B, coming from driving a Honda.

RX-7s tend to drain you bank account, so im not sure if you want to jump into that at only 18, unless you are fully funded.

Wehn i bought my S5 GXL (my first car) i dumped another $1500 worth of repairs and upgrades over the next year i owned it. Then i found a TII a year later for $3k and am about to dump another $1500 into it on upgrades/&repairs. So expect similar costs when you get yours, unless you can resiste the urge to upgrade

I suggest starting off with an n/a then later on when you know rotaries a llittle better, get a TII. the nonturbos are very reliable, ive had very few problems with my n/a's, especially for a 17+ year old car

i just bought a great body from a 90 GXL. auto transmission is blown and the engine runs but dies. so im gunna try to save the engine unless its bad compression. i paid $500 for it.

maybe you should look into a 240sx. Great reliable car with looks of potential. For the show side you could get the silvia front and maybe a kit and for the drift side. All you really need to get started is a good suspension and an lsd. Fun reliable car with lots of petential= 240sx not RX7. Sorry

well guys i am willing to accept any and all helpful info u guys shoot my way. so thanks in advance.

now im willing to put out the money but im just trying to get my hands on a 7 first. my uncle is buying it and he gave me like a 6k spending limit. but once i get the car im not gonna be driving it im gonna take the bus to work and use it as my weekend driver. cause honestly its not very often that i can pump my family for money. now that i have a job all the free rides are gone

but about the 240 thing. eh nissan is great dont get me wrong but when i see 240s i just feel generic. like everyone has one and everybody does the same thing to them with a different color. im sure that its a great car but my heart is just set on a 7.

so i hear alot of people talking about compression checks. whats some of the problems i would notice right off hand that say i have compression problems?

oh another thing why do some of you guys say go turbo and some dont. what do u think i should do about that? cause if buying a used turbo car. wouldnt i have more problems? or can they be fixed quickly?

i mean the work is no problem cause my friend is just opening up a shop like 5 blocks from my house and im learning more and more everyday i work there. so if i need to work on my car the shops right there.

the reason people say to N/A is because you need to learn about the rotary in general before you start doing mods. a good s4 gxl will be a good start. then from there do the normal N/A mods. get used to the car then about a year or so down the road start looking in to a TII. you will benefit greatly from the N/A knowledge. Find a good rotary shop near you that will talk with you and actually show you what a rotary is and help you gain some knowledge. you can talk and show pics all you want, but it just wont be the same till you see and touch it in person.

if your gonna turbo a n/a i hope you can fabricate and or know the ins and outs of JB weld ;-) trust me. i did it. you DONT want to. unless you own a machine shop and/or wanna RENT a lot of tools.
