factory amps in 89?
Do 89-91 have factory amps? I have a GXL and my front and rear speakers are cutting out. The sub still gets the signal because sound is still coming through it but my other speakers randomly come in and out. I would have posted in audio section but need this answered before sundown. Could it be a bad ground? Headunit is always powered up just doesnt give sound to anything but the sub.

It may be a problem with the factory amp - it's in a black box under the glove compartment, the passenger side speaker is mounted in the same box.
Do you have an aftermarket head unit? If so, you need to bypass the factory amp and run speaker wire directly to the two speakers. The stock head unit sends its output signal to the amp, which amplifies it (duh) and outputs to the two front speakers.

The amp below the glove box amplifies both front speakers, and some cars have amps in the shock towers for the rear speakers, one per speaker.
Might want to hit up the shop manual, too.

Yeah pulling the amp under glove box fixed it. I am surprised how long it has been running an amp into another amp and nothing went wrong sooner. Thanks
