Factory alarm and oil leak.....

So, first off, can someone explain to me how to work the factory alarm? It went off this morning and I had to undo the battery to get it to stop! It happened once in my GXL that I had.

Second, I'm leaking oil. Like a quart a week. From what I can tell, it looks like it's ozzing from in between the middle iron and the rear rotor housing on top of the motor underneath the oil filter. Is it possible to leak from there or is it just collecting there? I thought the only thing that went through the block there was water....

Thanks, John

hmm any way you can get some pictures of the oil leak, your describing the area area around the oil pressure sensor, could that be whats leaking?

I thought that at first. Especially since I have some "custom" plumbing for the turbo. I too apart the fittings and what ot and re-did them with teflon tape. And it still does it. I'll see about getting some pictures up.

Oh and how do you arm the alarm?

I've got an oil leak from the exact same spot, if I'm understanding your description. I spoke to the people at my local Mazda dealership and they told me there are two O-rings that need to be replaced at the oil filter body. I've got the O-rings and now I'm waiting for the rain to let up this weekend before I tackle that, but I'm hoping that'll do the trick. I might be able to let you know how that's gone as early as tomorrow evening, weather permitting.

As for the alarm, I think it's armed just by locking both doors. . . I have a theft deterrant system (prolly not the same) that has a light that flashes at the center console whenever I lock a door from the outside with the key, as long as the opposite door is already locked. That might not help, but that's the best I can do.

Change the o-rings and the heater hose under them. It will be oil soaked and ready to pop.

I'm assuming you have the power locks. If you hit the door lock on the drivers side (locks passenger side as well) then just close the door while holding the handle up. That will arm the system. If you lock the locks and close the door without holding the handle up the car will unlock itself.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to change the o-rings next. And I already blew that heat hose! So it's good to go.

The alarm sets when the car is locked and both doors are locked and teh hatch is closed completely. They alarm, mostly, goes off when it's unlocked and/or opened from the inside. On occasion, being an old car, the alarm goes off intermittently.
