"Please don't call cops/police "pigs". My father is a police officer, and while there are many negative things I can say about him, the one positive thing I can say is that he does a damn good job.

I have found that 99% of the time when people complain about the police, it means they did something stupid and got caught. They never tell the whole story. It's like complaining that the teacher is a bitch/******* because you got an F."

I'll give you the WHOLE story of my case. I had just got my Driver's License about 2 days ago, which was about a month AFTER I bought my car. My car is a 93 T/A. I drove this car for like 2 months with my mom, cousin, siter's b-friends, someone in the car. NOT ONCE was I EVER pulled over for NO FRONT LICENSE PLATE. My mom drove the car BY HERSELF, and was never pulled over for no front license plate. So anyway, I'm leaving my house to go to work and BEFORE I EVEN LEAVE THE SUBDIVISION, I get pulled over by a cop. Infact, when he seen the front of my car, he slammed on his brakes, flipped his lights on, and turned around and WAITED for me to turn the corner just so he could pull me over. This was my first time getting pulled over and so I'm thinking to myself, WTF did I do wrong? I' retracing the steps in my head and came up with nothing. So I turned the car off, rolled both of my windows down, had my license and registration papers WAITING for him and I put BOTH hands on the steering wheel/dash area. I did EVERYTHING that COPS TELL YOU TO DO, when you get pulled over. (the ones nice enough to divulge this info) He approached my car and said, "Do you know why I pulled you over?" I said, "No sir." He said, the reason I pulled you over was because you don't have a FRONT llicense plate." I responded and said, "The car did not have a FRONT license plate at the time that I bought it, sir." He said, "How long have you had this car?" I replied, "2 Months, sir." He looked at my temp license and seen I had only been driving for 2 days. He said, "I'm gonna give you a warning this time but what you need to do is go up to AutoZone and some screws and mount the front license plate." I said, "Sir, the "nose" on this vehicle doesn't allow for a license plate to be mounted on the Front." He said, "Then you need to go to AutoZone and get a bracket for $7.00 and mount the plates with that." I replied, "Thank you sir" and then took off to go to work, which I was already late for BEFORE he pulled me over. I answered EVERY question and response with YES, SIR or NO, SIR. POLITE IN EVERY WAY.

At this point, I was pissed, and called the SUPERVISOR of Traffic regulations in my city. I talked with him for a while about what happened and explained that the nose on my car didn't allow for me to mount a front plate. I also asked him when this law was put in effect. He told me it had been in effect since before 1983, when he came here. My mom's friend said it was just passed like in 2002. I took the cop's word, his is what matters. So after talking a while, he informs me that, ALL CARS assembled in the NOTHERN U.S. are shipped without plates, in most cases, they don't need them.
So we end the conversation.

Then, as I'm on my way home, (the SAME day, mind you)
I come up to some RR tracks and there's a sign that says "don't block the intersection, because there is also a subdivision where people need to enter/exit. I look over to the subdivision and see a cop on a motorcycle, and I begin panicking because I know he can see my front end as clear as day. I TRY to remain calm as I sit there, but he and I both know what's about to happen. We share about 4 eye-to-eye glances with one another before the traffic beings to move. I SLOWLY accelerated and he pulls out RIGHT BEHIND ME, and flips on the lights. I pull over 20 feet ahead into a nearby gas station parking lot. I do the SAME THING that I did the first time I was pulled over and he makes his way over to my car. He asks, "Do you know why I pulled you over?" I wanted to say, yeah, because I'm 19 years old, I'm driving a sports car, and I'm blasting loud ofensive music", but I told him what would be considered the "lawful" reason for pulling me over. But, I told him, "No FRONT license plate." He said, "That's riiiight, license and registration, please. He then asked, "So how do did you know?" I said, "because I was pulled over this morning for the same thing." I then replied, actually, I was on my way to the dealer to get it now." He replied, "Not this way you weren't." I'm thinking to myself WTF! He was telling the truth, because I had just passed the turn to go onto the highway, which is what leads to the dealership. However, I had to go to my bank to cash my check to GET the money to go to the dealer, which is why I went the way I did, aside from getting pulled over. So then, FOR THE FIRST TIME, I speak FIRST. I said, "What, you don't believe me?" He said, "Its not that I don't believe you its just..." He went into a question and said, "You know how much it costs for a Corvette mounting bracket?" I said, "no sir." He said, I pull people over in them all the time, they cost $135. Jaguars run about the same." I said, I didn't EVEN KNOW you NEEDED a FRONT license plate" which was the honest-to-god's truth. I seen so many cars around without them, that I thought it was optional. I said, "I just called officer ***** this morning and found out about it." He replied "**** *****?" He realized that was his boss, and said, "Did ****tell you that a FRONT plate is needed in 23 states?" I said, "No sir, but he said that cars assembled in the North didn't need them, and GM has manufactured the F-Body (Camaro/Firebird) in Canada and only Canada for the last 35 years." He said, "Did the cop this morning give you a ticket?" I said, "no sir," He said, well then you're gettin' one now." From here on, I lost my composure. I said, "Ah, come on sir." He said, "Now listen son, I'm not gonna scrutinize. I'm not gonna pull over a Corvette or Jaguar owner and give them a ticket and let someone like you slide." Then I said, "But I AM ON MY WAY to get the bracket NOW." He said, "Well I'm still giving you a ticket." I said, you don't believe me do you?" He said, "Son, relax. Go talk to the Judge about it, we're a big city." As he was writing the ticket, I called my mom on my cell phone and said, "I got pulled over AGAIN." (I called her earlier in the day and told her about the first time) She said, "WHAT?! I don't believe this." I said, "Yep, believe it." (which the officer could hear, of course. Now, in all honesty, I lied about telling him I was going to get the plate then, that was just a way to TRY and get out of the ticket, I was actually late to go pick my niece up from daycare. But how would he know If I was lying or not? My bank REALLY was that way, and I REALLY did need to go get the money. The first time I got pulled over, I was thinking, "I'm gonna be like all the vette owners and be rebellious, I don't need a front plate" After the second time in the SAME DAY, I changed my mind.

So my court date comes up a month later, and after making a 40 mile trip out to a gas station in the boonies, I got the ORIGINAL front plate from the seller, who left it in a envelope at the gas station. After 3 days of searching with his directions, I found it, got the plate, and began preparing my case. I had digital cam pics, Polaroid pics, evidence that 50% of the population has license plates, the other 50% don't including a CITY OF SAN ANTONIO vehicle with NO PLATES, and NO EXEMPTION. I had numerous references of GM's manufacturing process,etc.etc.etc. After looking through 2 pages of evidence, the case didn't even make it past the prosecutor, and THAT, is the WHOLE story. I guess I'm part of that 1%, too.
This concludes my novel. (which took about 45 minutes to type)

"I always thought that if they followed you for more than a few miles it was considered entrapment?"

No, entrapment is more like a cop forcing you to incriminate yourself.

An example would be if an undercover cop sees your ride and he has a sports car issued by the dept, and revs on you. You take off, and he pulls you over and gives you a ticket for exhibition of speed or street racing. That's entrapment, because he initiated the race, knowing you would enter into something incriminating.

Now in the case of a friend, he revved on a 5.0 which was driven by an undercover cop, the cop revved back, and my friend took off. The cop pulled him over because he started the race. So its NOT entrapment.

You sound like a smart kid, but you have been misguided. I am sorry your "daddy" didn't "raise you to think that working a hard job is how to get rich", because unless you win the lotto thats the only way it's gonna happen.
.....
Try reading Stephen R. Covey's book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" you will learn a lot about what life is really all about.
uh yeah.. those police.. GO POLICE!!! (had to include some reference to the original point of the thread)
Did you read the book? Cover to cover? He explains that you need to work hard AND smart. Not just work hard. And that's exactly what RX-7 addict said too.

I've told you before, and I'll tell you again right now.. working a job hard CAN get you rich, but it will never get you wealthy. Wealth = having money and time. Job = sell time to get money.

Please please please, do yourself a favor and read Kiyosaki's Cashflow Quadrant. If you learn nothing from that book besides one thing, learn the difference between S businesses and B businesses.

If you had read his book, you would understand that you CAN get wealthy not by working a job, but by building a business with a good system. McDonald's did it, in '92 when Ray Kroc died, his wife was bringing in a fat $29 million a month, because of the McDonald's system.

Oh yeah, and "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" is one of the books that is highly recommended in my business. Along with Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends and Influence People", and books by others such as "Think and Grow Rich", "The Magic of Thinking Big", "Wooden".. you get the idea..

Angry Why don't they quit?

God, you people dont have a clue do you?

I am very greatfull for the job I have, but I hate my job with a passion. Why do I still do it? Because I am good at what I do. Same for the officers.

This isn't the kind of work that just anyone can do. Like I said before, there are some that come in this on a power trip. And most grow out of that. Some don't. I know a few. Isn't stereotyping a wonderfull thing.

Another thing, You lawyers out there may want to actually try and learn the law before telling other people. And law is not the same everywhere, from state to state and city to city. Try getting a copy of your city ordinances and state vehicle/traffic law if you want to be able to know what you can and can't do. For example, I can spin tires here as long as I am going in a straight line but the next city over will bust you a new one, city ordinance.

Have a nice day.

Cops suck, they cost me my liscense for a while. What can I say...I didn't do anything wrong. That road was way under estimated for speed handling. Damn cops.

Oh, yeah, even when I'm on vacation in Florida, I'm still on forum....gotta love it.

Okay, I have one suggestion for you: chill the **** out. Honestly I have seen far too many people with this mindset, and you know what, less than 1% of them EVER see their dreams become reality. (I know... sounds pessimistic... but its true) You get so caught up in your destined "path" that any flaw or change ("crisis" I believe you put it) regardless of how minor, throws everything off course... the result: you break down. You ARE NOT GOD'S ANSWER TO... whatever... you are just a person, like the rest of us... get down from your pedestal and chill for a while...
Either that or your gonna have some damn big mental health bills...
Or alcoholics anonymous....
..see this too often these days...

As for cows and farms, I have lived in NYC my whole life and have never seen any here. Now upstate, that is a very different story.
Holy ****... so what your saying is that you spend your entire life within a concrete prison? wtf.... it makes me wonder why you even have an RX-7...

and btw, money is not the answer...

i just got pulled over today on my way to lunch. I was cruising a back road where the limit is 35 and the cop said I was going ABOUT 50. SO since he had no proof he wrote me a warning. He was cool though. THis was the first time that I had been pulled over. I am 18, had my car for about a year and a half and have the LOUDEST exhaust system on it. And most of the time i drive pretty quick, not fast but quick

Actually my dreams are coming true right now autocrash.
The point of my post wasn't that money is everything. It was that you have to work hard and give up things to achieve what you want, be it money, love, fame, or whatever. No one ever got any place by sitting on their *** and bullshitting. Actually my original post was about how pigs (police, cops, scum, whatever you wish to call them) whom hardly went through any school or training, and whom most are in the lower percentile intelectually, have no right to tell me they "can do what ever they want because they are the police." They are not the law they are servents of the law, and if people keep letting them get away with what they are dooing this country is going to crumble.

Oh ya, I do not spend all of my time in the city. I live here and have never seen any cows or farms "when I am here". That doesn't mean I never leave here. I spend most of each summer in Italy. So stop assuming things. You will almost always assume wrong.

Barwick:

I definately misunderstood you. I think we do have the same views. I too, am planning on setting up a business some day. I am just at a different stage in my life then you are. I am working hard and learning everything about the NYC business world, so my business will have a solid foundation. Hope there are no hard feelings about this misunderstanding.

By the way, what kind of business are you running?

Thats just what it sounded like...

oh, really.... you'd be surprised....

I agree with you completely on this one... with the exception of the fact you still haven't gotten off that pedestal of yours...
And speaking of the country crumbling, is a 7 figure salary REALLY helping the country?? or is it just helping you?

I spend most of each summer in Italy. So stop assuming things. You will almost always assume wrong.
Hmm... and this with a father who is struggling to put you through the best schools... that's not too nice for your father! :

oh, and there is that pedestal again...

btw, what is it that makes you assume that:
a) you are smarter than a large percent of the police

b) you are smarter than me

I believe you said it best:
So stop assuming things. You will almost always assume wrong.

You are really starting to tick me off autocrash. You are so ignorant.

First off name one person that got somewhere by being lazy! It is not gonna happen.

Yes I do believe my 7 figure salary will be helping the country. It will definately be helping a lot more than the 100 million people in this country that collect welfare.

You also made another assumption about my time in Italy. Most of my family still lives there, and it cost me a lot less to spend my time with them then it does in NYC.
Plus, if you would have read my earlier posts you would know I am working for JP Morgan right now. You really must stop assuming things.

What makes me smarter than most police? Lets see, to start off I have an IQ of 163 and I am a member of MENSA International. MENSA is an organization made up of members who score in the top 2% on standardized IQ tests. I also scored 1520 on my SAT and recieved a full scholarship for college. Since then I have been hired as an intern by JP Morgan. Which they are currently paying for all my college and graduate school expenses. And whats the requirement to be a pig? Hmmm... Oh ya! Almost nothing!

As for being smarter than you, I don't know you and I don't recall ever sayin that I was smarter than you are, because there is a chance that I might not be.

So you see I really didn't assume all that much. Take a chill pill, and calm down. It is just a message board.

greed is sad

yeah, uh huh... so are you also a long-distance swimmer now too?

Damn, those pedestals are popping up everywhere... Oh, and I know what MENSA is.... whoop-dee-doo...

Now, in all honesty, I had no problem with the message of your initial posts. The thing I did have a problem with, however, was your condecending attitude towards the other members of this forum, not to mention the police. Now maybe you could tell me this, what motivates someone to be making 7 figures? What is the purpose of making that much money? (This is a sincere question, as I have never fully understood what drives such people.)

It is obvious (I think to both of us) that we are cut out for different career paths... maybe we should leave it at that?

I own a network marketing business. Read the cashflow quadrant if you haven't heard of it before, there's a good example in there.

Seriously, you can have a 163 IQ, but honestly how many people's lives can you change by having that IQ and working a business solely to make you money? People are important, and unless you teach or mentor people, you really can't change many lives (unless you do something really extraordinary) without giving them a hand out. By teaching and mentoring, you can give people a hand up, instead of a hand out. It all depends what you do..

I am sitting here at my computer at 12:23 in the AM reading all this bull ****, so much of it i feel sick. I am not a cop, but damn close. My title is Lt Joseph Haney, Maryland Defence Force. I have a lot of friend that are officers. All real good men. I know a woman, and two kids that have to live with out a dad becouse some ***** would rather pull a trigger than spend a night in a drunk tank. Think about that. Most of you have no idea what these fine men and women go through day to day. When was the last time you when to work and kissed your wife/girl and wonderd if it would be the last? I am sure there are dicks and power triping cops all over. LIKE ANY OTHER JOB. last time you got a dick bartender that could not make a drink to save his life did you curse all bartenders? Think about a job where your uniform is a 48.9 LBs vest just in case bullets are flying at you. I have gotten ticket for a cracked windsheld, **** me off YEA but he was doing his job. I know that me and my Bro get pulled over just becouse we are to males in a Black Trans Am with all the fixens, but i deal. in a few months i go Fedral, for me that means GA, and another yr of traing for the HONOR of being able to fithe and possabley die for my the nation i love. I do this of the battle fields of the world. Next time you see the flashing red and blue think about the people that do it on the battle feilds of the streets we walk peacefully every day.
I am sorry the the broke speach and missed spelling i am so upset i cant think strat. I leave you with one thought , What have you done to help someone else today, would you take a bullet for some one that called you a dick and said you were a 7 figer loser? I am not perfict just a guy telling you to look from all sides

Following someone for an extended distance because of their non-loud and fashionable exhaust and using fake turn signals is NOT DOING THEIR JOB. Somebody somewhere else in that town needed some serious help, in the meantime, Officer Licksalottaass is doing nothing more than causing an obstruction of justice.

Now that you're done talking about how much better you are than everybody else, maybe you can read what you're saying and see for yourself how stupid you look. Police officers go through training appropriate for their jobs. Just because they don't make 7 figures doesn't mean they're any less intelligent than you. If you're as smart as you say you are, then why do you stereotype? Why do you make stupid comments like "and whats the requirement to be a pig?". Obviously you wouldn't know. Instead of talking about something you know nothing about why don't you go educate yourself? I know 15 year olds who've scored higher on the SATs than you and they're not even juniors (meaning they don't really have to take it). So you really don't have anything to brag about. At the end of the day, SAT scores and IQ don't make you any better than the next guy. There's people who've done greater things than you and they didn't do it because of their SAT score or their IQ or because they were in MENSA. Those things don't matter in life. Those things only matter to people who don't know what life is about. It's sad to think that you'll spend the rest of your life working to collect a mere piece of paper while others are out enjoying theirs. For what? To impress somebody? In the end we all die. In the end how much money you made or how successful your business was doesn't matter. What matters is that you made your life count for something. Spending your life trying to collect paper and possessions is not making your life count for something. That's all I have to say. If you can honestly reply to this and tell me that paper or a "job" is more important than enjoying one's life...

Everyone is so touchy! First off for those people who see me as condescending, I'm sorry that was not my intentions at all. I have gotten very little sleep this week and have been pretty grumpy. I am only trying to point out that no matter who you are, the police have no right to tell you that they "can do whatever they like because they are the police." Yes, there is always the one bad apple excuse, but frankly EVERY time I get pulled over the officers always seem to have the "I can do whatever I like" attitude. Last time I checked, this country was a democracy and police were just normal citizen like the rest of us.

Once again, I'm sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings.

about the search warrant thing on the first page of this thread:

when asked if your car can be searched ALWAYS ALWAYS say no. if they ask it prolly means they dont have probable cause. if they do they will search it anyways, but if your friend dropped his "pipe" in your car and you didnt know it then you are screwed by saying they can search it. remember, you say they cant search it, and they still do, and find something, they have to come up with a believable reason that they had "probable cause" in court. if you do say no and they search it and find something, 9 times out of 10 they will confiscate it and let you go

If you get pulled over and feel the officer is not doing everything by the book, ask for the number of his watch commander or ask the officer to call the watch commander to the scene. If you have a cell phone call the watch commander, explain your concern of the officer not working by the book, using poor judgement and/or violating your rights.
Never, agree to have your car searched or give up any rights you have. If you are searched and not arrested, make sure the watch commander comes to the scene. You can follow them to the station and file a complaint against the officer(make sure you send a copy to the local government, mayors office, city attorney, state rep, etc)
If you really feel your rights have been violated, get an attorney(it helps if you have a witness at the scene also.)

Not sure. Sounded funny to me at 7 this morning. I'm showing my age I guess. It was a cut from Ghostbusters, "Shhhh…smell that?"

BTW, the best way to get out of speeding tix is to pull a Chris Farley—when the cop approaches the car, tear off your clothes and start screaming 'BEES! BEES! BEES EVERYWHERE!"

I guess I was grumpy this morning and couldn't see why this thread was in the 2nd Gen Forum. I'll stop now.
