Extream heat coming thru Shifter Boot

I first noticed this last summer about the time I had a new Drive Shaft installed.
If I'm in slow moving traffic and stitting Idle for more than 5 min, alot of heat come
thru the shifter boot. I was in a "fast" food drive thru Sunday and also notice what
appeared to be smoke coming thru the boot. All the seams have split open on the
boot and the heat has apeared to melt the finish of the boot. It is now shiny & brittle.

1) I'm wondering if the shop might have removed a heat sheild?

2) do I have exhaust proplems?

Any Idea's?

Brad

you could also cover that area with some heat reflecting material from some place like DEI. same thing happens with 3rd gens. search on a thread with my username and "tranny tunnel".

You might want to make sure that the jute packing is still under the shift boot mounting plate thingey. It's that brown felty looking stuff. It blocks alot of heat.

I had massive amounts of heat coming in as well about a year ago. And I mean, HOT DAMN, there was some HEAT! And people told me the same thing you are being told, but I just coulden't believe this much heat was held back by a piece of rubber. Eventually I found out that the provious owners "brand new" exhaust system was ******* shitty, and he used a 80$ cat that clogged itself, so where do the exhaust gases go now? They break the gasket from the header and shoot flamed directly at the tranny tunnel. I spotted it one night after romping around on it pretty heavy, the tubes leading all the way to the cat were red, and then it stopped. A little strange, huh? I think it's a really long shot that this would happen to someone else though. I'm the one with all the good luck ;-D. Just makes you wonder... how hot does it feel?? Ohh well, I put a true dual system on it, and it's better now, heh...later
