exhaust work; 88' T2

My current exhaust (stock) on my 88' RX-7 Turbo II leaks, this causes a great loss of power. I am sure it leaks at the back of the turbo and front of the downpipe, but maybe somewhere else as well. Anyways, if I got the 3" Racing Beat downpipe, i'd have to do a custom exhaust there back. Or I could get a 2.5" RB downpip ($35 less) and put a short length of pipe to take the place of that expensive pre-silencer. But I was probably going to replace the mufflers anyways because the tips rusted off. That makes me think I should go ahead and get the 3" downpipe and make a custom 3" downpipe back exhaust to go with it. Well the 2.5" downpipe adds like 27 horespower when used with the RB presilencer, i think it would still be 27 extra horsepower if I substituted the presilencer for a 2.5 inch pipe. but the 3" turbo back adds like 59 horsepower, so is most of the gain in the mufflers and removal of the catalytic convertors? I don't know what to do, i'd like some comments/suggestions. BTW i did search but I didn't find the exact answer I want.
thanks,
zach

the extra horsepower means you have to mod the fuel and stuff. Running straight pipes alone can cause lean condition and blow the engine, especially the 3" setup. And yes, no mufflers and cats (straight pipes) means more flow means more power (and VERY loud too), but only with equivalent fuel (perhaps intake as well?) mods to accomodate.

2.5" downpipe... you're talking about this?

i have a new one sitting in the garage unused $85 shipped if you want it (found out it won't fit with stock components and didn't have the time to fabricate the rest of the exhaust)

PM me if you find the need for it, it'll be waiting in my garage
