exhaust shop

Hi there, This winter im looking into exhaust for my 1988 rx7 N/A
its a 13b, my questions is...

is it possible to get the local exhaust shop to bend me headers.....etc all the way to a muffler...
I heard rotary's run hotter
is the a certain material/coating they need to use?
i figure it will cost me 300 bucks for the headers all the way to the muffler
and a reactive muffler is about 200...

but i dont want it to burn up the muffler, is there a way to solve this problem?
coating/material that is best used to disipalte heat faster?

Could I buy a presilencer off the mazdaspeed? and have everything elese shop made? with a reactive muffler?

My prior NA had a rig made with the Mazdatrix dual header kit.
That provides the heavy mounting plate & the thick wall tube bends.
I printed a picture of the nice Racing Beat header and told the shop to make it like that.

Now the bad news.
NA rotaries with a header are LOUD AS HELL.
Mufflers alone will still be way loud.
A high quality presilencer is mandatory.
You will love the result.

I used two cheap but strong "turbo pack" presilencers.
That knocked down the heat & shock waves enough that I could use generic bombs at the back.

I kept the muffler flanges to make maintenance easier.

If you want "cheap" go with a Pacesetter header, straight pipe, custom cat-back (and muffler), and find a way to actuate your 5th and 6th ports (wiring them open). (I can't beleive I just recommended this ) You'll also be WAY loud. Or use a Borla XR-1 muffler inline instead of the straight pipe.

Should run pretty cheap.

And you'll want at least a "tuned" header. Can they do that for you?

Racing Beat header and catback doesn't sound that much different w/o a presilencer.

I had a high flow cat on there and then replaced it with a race pipe, and the car sounds almost the same--maybe a little less deep, but still not that much of a difference. It's still quieter than when I had a racingbeat header, high flow cat, and Apexi N1 duals.

Wow that is quite a setup. Does the true dual give you more power because the exhaust waves don't interfere with eachother?

edit...

nice setup but the headers seem to not extend out enough like the sdj racing headers...which i thought was the optimum header design for the 13B

True - a couple inches of straight out run would have been better, but I didn't know that back then.

A collected, single out header can make more power, but can also make less if it's not tuned right.

Full duals are not so touchy about tune. They just work.
And, I like the way they sound. If you pick up a miss, you can tell which rotor it is.

As I recall, the whole system was 2" all the way back.
The header tube was .090 thick.
The rest was standard .062 aluminized 2".
FWIW two 2" pipes flow about the same as one 3".
