NM exhaust question/opinion

so i have a s4 tII completely stock
car runs well
smokes like a train but runs well
my question is, i have a dynomax exhaust system, single pipe that i just have lying around, i know i will need a down pipe made for it to work, but thats not really an issue since a friend is a welder. would this single dynomax pipe run or breathe any better than the stock twin pipes on the car?
any feedback or opinion would be great
thanks

I'd be worrying more about the smoking issue than the exhaust issue if it was "smoking like a train".....

I had a 3 in straight pipe with a 3 in downpipe, and it is definitely better than te stock setup performance wise, however it is ungodly loud, I got pulled over 3 times the first week I had it on the road. Now i have some off brand 3 in muffler and a 3in glasspack. Its still loud, but no tickets "knock on wood".
