Exhaust Question

Right now i currently have a RacingBeat header, Catco. catalytic converter which dumps into 2.5 inch piping into 2 dynomax mufflers. I am not running an air pump and i heard that because of this, my Cat will melt. Is this true?

Because of the high temps of the rotary engine..only a few cat's will work without melting into nothing . But..if you are not running an airpump, then why even run a cat at all? Without the air pump you are almost garunteed to NOT pass emissions anyways. If you want you're exhaust note to be quiet, get a Borla XR-1. It doesn't restrict flow much at all, it's lightweight, and it does it's job of quieting down the exhaust well.

I'm planning on gutting the cat. Next year our emissions test is going to change to only a visual inspection under the car . Until then i just thought it would be good to have one to minimize sound. How much to the Borla XR-1 run for?
