Exhaust question.....
Exhaust question.....
Simple question....by removing the pipe(the second precat and main cat) behind the first precat(mine is blown clean through), will it make my car faster or slower? I know it's hella loud.....I started the car when my Dad and I had it off. Just wondering because I'm taking it to the track this Friday and I don't want to be like a ricer....it *sounds* fast. I'll only take the pipe off for the one day to race if it's worth it. I'm guessing it would make my car slower because I need the backpressure for the ports? I'm not going to wire them or anything....just looking for a simple answer.....faster or slower? Thanks people.

P.S. The catback section of the exhaust will be left on.

Ok, by removing do you mean installing a custon pipe to replace the cats, or are you hollowing it out (ie, gutting the cats)? If you are putting in a cat replacement pipe (also known as a race pipe), yes, there will be an increase in top end horse power due to a reduction in backpressure, but you will loose a bit of low end torque. If you are gutting them, then it will cause turbulene in the pipe because the walls are not even and smooth, and that can actually hinder flow, thusly hurting power.
Yeah what he said. Doin anything related to making pipes wider. This going for intake or exhaust. In the case eliminating back pressure. It will increase ur high end power but you will suffer from the start. But if you have a turbo in the mix. it will be loving you since it will be able to spool faster due to less resistance on the exhaust side.
