Exhaust Q's Need Some Help...

Hello, I'm sorry to keep posting questions regarding exhaust, but I keep finding out new info, so I'm gonna post my questions all at once in this thread.

I have a 1986 RX-7 N/A.

I am interested in upgrading the exhaust, but I don't really know what to do. I am pretty sure that I will go with the RP50 cat back exhaust system from rx7.com because I like the subtle look of that system.

My questions really arise from the engine itself back to the Y-pipe for the exhaust. I would like to do a header, but I read somewhere that if you do a header on a fuel injected seven, it's not a good thing. Is this true??

I would like to do the racing beat header with silencer but if it will damage my engine because of the fuel injection that's out of the question.

It seems to me that most of the headers are designed to be used with a presilencer and not a catalytic converter, is this correct??

If I do a header with the presilencer, will it still provide the necessary pressure to open my ports??

Basicly, what I would like to know is what you guys suggest I do from the engine back to the Y-pipe. Leave the stock manifold and use racing beat's cat replacement presilencer pipe, do a header and the presilencer, or just leave the stock manifold in place and get a high flow cat?? Please be specific, like if you suggest a header and presilencer, please give brands you like.

Thanks in advance. Jeff

Get the dual headers from the engine to the tail pipe from Mazdatrix or Racing Beat. The header will not hurt you engine. Never heard of such! Mazdatrix wrote last week on this subject. I'll try to find it for you under SEARCH. Their exaust system makes provisions for the aux actuators. Everything I ever bought from the two fit like a glove. The header is as you know the most effective piece of aftermarket equipment you can buy for a hp gain. The cat back does not do nearly as much, and an intake like Kand N should be done only if you have too much money to spend. Do the intake, but don't expect much. Bottom of the list right after the fuzzy dice and the J.C. Whitney suicide ****.

Been There:

Use a pre-silencer and cat-back from Racing Beat. The new Header will only cause excess noise and no noticeable power gains. I was told by RB tech that use the after-market header only if I was racing because of its noise level. I'm not racing so I went with the presilencer (which bolts up quite nicely) and the cat-back system... both from Racing Beat! The mufflers (if you get the stainless steel) are sweet looking!!! ANd sound great!

I really enjoy the power gains! Now if I could only get my car to quit misfiring!

Have fun with your new equipment and be careful putting them in. They are a little time consuming and cause a few headaches if you don't take your time and USE PENETRATING OIL!
