exhaust piping

What is the little silver tube that connects in the middle of the oem piping on a gxl exhuast?! It leads up to the engine. What is it for?! Do i need it?!

It's the split air tube. Feeds air to the cat. What year is your car btw?

Its a 89 gxl. Just got a new RB header put on and was wondering if i needed it and what to do with it when I go in for piping.

just get a cat back exhaust then have the exhaust shop do the rest

I believe S5's use that to actuate the auxiliary ports. I could be wrong. I'm a turbo guy.

S5 doesnt need it if your not running a cat, the airpump provides the backpressure need for the aux ports. BUT if you have a cat and remove the airtube it it will kill/ cook it. On a s4 you HAVE TO HAVE IT if you want you aux ports to work. Go to either the mazdatrix site or RB's site for more detailed info, or search! :smiley_12

yeah I read something like that when I decideed to buy it. It said that S4s needed the back pressure to open the 5 and 6 ports and S5s have theirs opened by the air pump. But what should I do with it then? Cut it off and seal it up?! Or just connect it to the new piping?!

If you have a cat,keep it and hook it up, if not remove it it you want.
