Exhaust manifold question.
Ok. On a s4 TII exhaust manifold, there is a little damper door blocking like half of it. On the s5 manifold, there is no such thing. Its blocking half the exhaust manifold, and I dont see any benefit to such a thing. Can this be removed along with the rest of its assembly that sits beside the turbo? Negative aspects of it? Comments?

That's the switching actuator valve. The turbo should have a switching actuator(cannister looking thing, vac operated) that operates that flapper valve in the exaust. Its used to spool the turbo up quicker. Download the series four fsm at http://www.iluvmyrx7.com and the fuel section.
EDIT: NINER, BELOW, DID A BETTER JOB DESCRIBING THE THING. But I post faster!

thats the twin scroll part of the turbo system. people have removed the twin scroll solenoid, flapper in exhaust and actuator before. its supposed to change angle the exhaust gas hits turbine wheel, for better velocity at lower rpms or something like that. search and you can find lots more info, i dont know much about it. i removed it from my car
