I would never try it. I tend to look at systems thinking of the future and a zip-tied muffler screams "Failure!". Also I bet that track officials would have a fit if they saw something like that...

 

RB's instructions actually suggest what was suggested above, that you try rotating the pipe a bit before tightening it up.

In my case there were a couple of other factors. As for the rubber donuts that Aaron mention, I found that despite having a smaller inner diameter they stretch more than the stock peices. I put two on each hanger and it worked better.

 

That and it would suck to walk out to your car and have melted plastic cooked on to the side of your muffler. Zipties are just ghetto for the sake of being ghetto, your saving yourself like $10 to support an almost $600 system with plastic not designed for high temp or really to hold that much weight either.

I could attach my fenders with super-glue and they will hold on for a couple years probably, then they fall off suddenly and cause damage, costing me more money than the damn clips i was too cheap to replace..

Spend the $10 and save yourself a potential wrecked muffler or gooey or bad smelling etc.

 

I actually have the same problem with my RB Turbo Back, kind of infuriating considering it's not exactly a cheap system.
