Exhaust got louder??

For some reason my (GTUs's) exhaust got much louder in the course of a day. I have a RB downpipe and presilencer so I was used to it being a little louder, but now it sounds like thats all I have (stock exhaust from there back). I also get a nice vibration in my seat at high revs and more backfires that sound like they're coming from directly beneath me. Now at the risk of answering my own question, from what I can piece together- I'm guessing its due to an exhaust leak. I know there was one gasket that was leaking a bit, thus I'm guessing maybe it blew completely and is now causing all this? So basically I was just curious if anyone can confirm this or if I'm way off and it means my engine is about to explode...? Thanks in advance...

Hmmm... I wouldn't be too worried that your engine's about to explode.

Um, if I were you, I'd start the car up, reach under it and feel around for any noticable leaks. It also might be pretty obvious if alot of sound is now coming from underneath your car...

I don't know about the back-fire part though. That seems a bit odd.

yea it sound like a gasket is blown because of the e backfiring you might of lost some back pressure.and about the vibrating it could be from the blown gasket or it could be a heat shield. some one with a better assumption will chine in soon

I'm guessing due to the missing gasket, when the system is moved there's nothing to prevent the metal on metal contact causing vibration. No gasket=leak+more space between those parts.

Always nice to hear I'm not completely off on assessing something wrong with my car. Already got the gasket so I guess its time to get my 7 up on stands and replace it, sounds like I got an afternoon project. Thanks much for the help guys...

I have RB cat back exhaust. The same thing happened to me awhile back where the manifold-to-cats gasket just disintegrated. I had this extremely load exhaust noise coming from the passenger seat instead of the rear. We got it back together and I was good. Then 6 months later I was pulling the engine and the gasket was almost gone again. Do N/A 7's have this problem often? Or is it just my luck?

i've blown out like 2 gaskets and 2 sets of mating bolts from by racing beat exhaust ..

i believe its my own fault however though, cause when i first put it on i didnt put any locktite or anything on with it ... i just bolted and hand tightend...

then one day all of a sudden my car sounded like **** after a very spirited run ... scared the crap outta me ..i thought i had blown the motor ... checked the exhaust after i pulled into a spot, and sure enough it was sagging a bit in the middle

just start your car, and look under it ... you should be able to see it pretty easily if its anywhere along the actual exhuast pipes

I was on the way up to NY this Friday night and was going up 390. Awful awful highway. Somehow managed to loosen the nuts off the downpipe/manifold and they dissapeared completely. Car sounded nice till I took off thru first, 2nd and 3rd... any kind of torque and my engine bay sounded like my **** was spinning without housings.
