If you do that while the motor is cold (like he said) please prompty turn the car off and throw your keys far far away.

I heard it's better to retard the timing a bit to increase the chance of shooting flames...has anyone heard of this tip or trick and if it is safe or not?

FCdemon 05-10-03 02:09 PM

if you've got a turbo II, I'd recommend against screwing with the timing for some silly flames.. is it worth blowing your engine?

dr0x 05-10-03 02:15 PM

Silver I saw a video of that car (or a similar one) on a dyno. The turbos went from not visible to fucking bright bright yellow/white

Flames

If you guys are really worried about screwing up your car just to get flames just put a freaken spark plug in your pipe. My favorite is putting a small fuel injector right in front of the plug with propane or nitromethane or something. Propane and nitromethane don't show up good during the day but at night you get blue and white flames. My preference is the nitromethane you can get it at hobby shops and it gives a kind of ghost look to your car.

Of course if you don't want it to looked rigged just use gasoline.

i would never rig up something (sparkplug or propane, etc) in the exhaust just to get flames. How is that any different from haveing 1 of those fake electronic BOV? i guess it's a F&F thing.

as for inducing flames, the multiple high revs always works. But what also works for me is cruising in 3rd @ 4000-5000 (normal city cruising) and let off the throttle and allow engine braking. Voila! Couple of flames with nice pops. Scares the hell outta that soccer mom next to you. lol

Davidov 07-30-03 11:08 PM

So which model RX is more likely to spit flames with an open exhaust? Like a N/A or a TII?

Just curious.......

Rx-7Blazin 07-30-03 11:16 PM

I wouldnt put anything on my car to induce flaimes all id want is natural flaims

T2R7 07-31-03 12:05 AM

a friend of mine did the plug trick on his Ford festiva.
its very rusty and very funny.

Rx-7Blazin 07-31-03 01:05 PM

one question how do you rig up the spark plug thing?? I dont want to do it to my rx-7 but it would be funny yo do it on a junker.

1987RX7guy 07-31-03 01:20 PM

From what I have seen on TV you make a hole in the exhaut pipe and thread it for a spark plug. But most of the kits I seen have some sort of device that makes the car run rich as hell so there is fuel in the exhaust. You rig up a coil to the plug and set it up with a switch or button that you push to make the plug fire. The one kit I saw you had to rev up the engine to like 3k rpms and it shoots like 6 foot flames.

Cool looking but you have to have a spark plug in your exhaust pipes messing with flow and you probably waist a lot of gas doing it.

Santiago

PS- It would probably acheive the best wow effect on a geo metro or something like that. :D

Then let it happen naturally. :)

Bragging about having a car that makes flames is silly anyways, don't you think? Everyone will always want to see it.

I'd prefer to have people tell ME my car shoots flames, rather than the other way around.

Santiago - People who run spark plugs in their exhaust usually run a line of propane into the tip as well.

And for the record, on a geo, it would have the most "Wow, that's gay." factor. ;)

1987RX7guy 07-31-03 06:12 PM

I didn't say that was what I would do. But you have to admit a tiny geo shotting 6ft flames would make you notice it.

I am content with my flames when I shift. ;)

chris_stampe 07-31-03 06:46 PM

Id say the TIIs are more likely because they run a little richer and plus I get flames everytime I get a bov when I shift because its an open vented style one.

Rx-7Blazin 08-01-03 12:40 AM

haha yea in no way will i ever rig something that gay on my Rx-7 only if i bought a beater for drivin for gas milage or some shit.

A connection on my distributer rotor was bent and nearly broken off, this was the result.

Precisely, my engine lost compression as a result. I just figured it idling crazy and missing was a result of cheap plugs and vacuum leaks. Little did i know.

About the flames thing. my car is a 87 n/a no cats(straight pipe ) just put some free flowing mufflers on it.
now whenever I shift at full throttle I get LOUD pops. just accelerating with these mufflers are lout as hell but the pops are defening. Is this flame or just black smoke
I cant tell. Also I am about to install a header as well and I was wondering if that would be TOO free flowing for my car because I have heard about the s4's need some backpressure to open the port acutors. With that said, the muffler shop in my town says those ports are located in the exhaust manifold, so if i put a header in place of the manifold I should have no worries right?. If anyone has done something similar to what I want to do please reply to this or private message me with some good reliable info. my apoligies to the thread starter for getting a little off subject.

Sam 08-05-03 04:07 PM

turns out im shooting flames after all, small though.

240sx 01-31-06 08:37 PM

^ did you get your 5/6th ports to open with backpressure?

DemonicPupil 01-31-06 08:42 PM

holy bump batman

you should have asked this question 3 YEARS AGO!!! look at the date people!

BTW there is a write-up on the archives on how to open the aux ports on S4's with the airpump.

and the 5/6 ports are in the lower intake mainfold, NOT in the exhaust manifold Like Sam mention on the previous post.

speed_monkey 01-31-06 08:57 PM

nevermind haha
