Exhaust Flaimes

hey i have gutted cats a cat back exhaust and removed ERG Valve and i was wondering why my car only occasionaly shoots flaimes my freinds keep wanting to see the "FLAIMES" but they only accasionaly shoot out. could this be because i have yet to remove mt air pump and acv?? How often do you shoot flaimes

drago86 05-07-03 10:17 PM

Remove daspots, and the anti afterburn valve ( like disconnect the solenoid) and maybe dissconect the port air solenoid, that will help.

1987RX7guy 05-07-03 10:20 PM

umm you have to induce the flames.

Here is what you do. You rev the car up several times to 5-6k rpms then take it to the buzzer that should get you some large flames. ;)

adrock3215 05-07-03 10:35 PM

LOL @ flames on an import car.

Rx-7Blazin 05-07-03 10:35 PM

dont the daspots make the trottle not go down so fast?? where is the anti afterburn valve?? i dont want to make my car harder to drive or rugpher on the engine just to shoot flaimes its just something fun to do once and a while

Troll alert! :ban:

Anyways, you could always do the spark plug just before the tip of the muffler with a switch in the cabin if you want flames on demand. Do a search and you'll find a writeup on how to do it.

rotary>piston 05-07-03 10:56 PM

the dashpot makes the throttle come down more slowly, correct. But if you rev it up really high it's dumping fuel into the engine, then if the throttle snaps closed (with no dashpots) it cuts off the air, forcing a rich condition, and that's why it flames.

Seems from what i've seen that RX-7's flame more easily than most cars, do rotaries flame more easily in general than other engines?

Rx-7Blazin 05-07-03 11:00 PM

no way would i put a spark plug in my exhaust thats gay as hell its sweet that it will do it naturaly. also if i remove the daspots will this have any negative affects??

Why do people join forums just to make fun of stuff? If I was going to go join the supra forums, it would be so i could ask questions, etc, not to go on and make fun of the supra and make up kill stories involving me and a supra (I see a lot of those "kill" stories on here).

adrock3215 05-07-03 11:09 PM

???

I didn't join this forum to make fun of anything, I joined to ask questions and to learn stuff about the RX-7. I own a TII and have learned a ton from this board.

I just think it would be funny to see an import car with flames. It seems like more of a muscle car thing to me.

Well my car shoots two foot flames from both pipes :D
I agree that is seems more like a domestic thing but I like my fire breathing Japaneese Dragon don't you all?? :D

You obviously never watched F&TF then. :bling:
I believe they also used the sparkplug in the muffler trick to do the flames in the movie.

If you're gonna start this whole shooting flames thing, the biggest drawback is wasting more fuel as you're try to shoot them. If you don't have emmissions in your area, then just take your cat right out and replace it with a test pipe which should open up the flow more than a gutted cat.

Rx-7Blazin 05-07-03 11:30 PM

how is it so weard i think its just one of the cool things about a rotory it will shoot flaimes even with no upgrades without cats it would take alot of upgades to get flaimes to shoot from an american car or it just running like crap

1987RX7guy 05-07-03 11:32 PM

Rx-7Blazin

Try what I said. That is how I make mine :D I love doing it to CIBIKs following me. ;) makes them think twice.

Drifter101 05-08-03 10:30 AM

Hahhaha, gotta love the flames.

Rx-7Blazin 05-08-03 11:22 PM

ok but i dont get what you mean do you mean hit it to 5k let off repeat then hit it to 7k form low rpm's or like 5k then when you get to 7 k let off rapidly, slowly or hold it

AsianFlip06 05-09-03 12:03 AM

hehe man my NA shoots flame like crazy as ive been told the first time i was playing around and i was shooting like flames like 4ft long and it was bouncing around the freeway for good 5 seconds they thought my motor blew up hehe. The 2nd time my buddy saw me shoot hella flame when i just downshifted into 2nd to hit 65 he told me flames were past my spoiler and all the black smoke after it made him almost crash hehe damn i love rotarys....

nillahcaz 05-09-03 12:11 AM

what??? you shot flames UP? and the flames bounce? 4 foot long? i have seen a BP 12a pop at redline and it just shot shy of 4 foot. :bsflag:

Jimmy325i 05-09-03 02:10 AM

Before you raise the BS flag, I have video of mine shooting 4 foot flames on stock ports with header and open pipes. I'll be posting that video in a few weeks when my summer classes start.

So... Who wants to bet me some pink slips or insanely large amounts of money that 4' flames aren't possible? I'll take all bets no matter how big. (I'll gladly take your money on this one)

Rx-7Blazin 05-09-03 09:20 PM

oh its possible my car has gutted cats cat back exhaust intake and removed emmisions and it shot 4 mabe 5 ft flaime as i was told by the guy standing next to my car when it did it

Ok the way I was tought to shoot flames:
1 make sure the car is warmed-up(never rev a cold engine)
2 start reving it to 5000 or 6500 rpms letting it drop to about 4k rpms before reving it again
3 after doing step 2 for about 4-6 revs rev it all the way to 7k rpms and let of after the buzzer.

This should provide many small flames and two very large 2+ ft splitsecond flames(impressive ones :D )

note that reving an engine like this could kill it so your on your own.;)

YakATK 05-09-03 11:14 PM

You can also shoot flames on shifts sometimes. I find my car lets off some smaller flames if I hit redline and then shift, get some pops with a bit of orange.

Rotory 05-10-03 01:48 AM

if your motor cant take a couple 5k revs and a redline, then you should just go home

introVert 05-10-03 02:12 AM

COOL (HUH HUH) FIIIIIIRE! (HUH HUH)
FIIIIRE!

I have an 88, and this is the ONLY flames I wanna see- so I did the pulsation fix.

Are you talking like flame graphics on the side of a car? Because we're talking about literal flames (see above posts).. ^_^
