Exhaust Configuration Question (searched)
Hi guys. I've been looking at exhaust systems for a while now, and I think I've decided. My choices are these:
RB Road Race dual header ->RB dual presilencer->RB y-pipe->RB cans
or
RB Streetable header->Bonez High Flow cat->RB y-pipe-> RB cans
I just can't decide between the dual exhaust, or the single with the cat. Either way, it will be dual cat-back, I'm just not sure how much more power I'd see with the dual header/presilencer over the collected header/cat. Any advice is appreciated. I do DD this thing, and would love an increase in gas mileage, but I still want to have fun with it at the track on the odd weekend.
Thanks
-Rick

See, the main issue here is whether I want true duals all the way back, or single until the y-pipe. Also, if I go RB header-> something here-> y-pipe, the "something here" needs to bolt up to the header, and to the y-pipe, which the Bonez high flow cat does.

True duals are the best as far as power goes, but a collected system would be a bit lighter. Don't concern yourself too much about what will bolt to the header, you can buy the flanges seperately from RB or Mazdatrix and get it welded on to any dual 2" diameter section of pipe.
Everyone I have ever asked that runs true duals absolutely loves them.

By the way, a member on here is selling a full premade true dual system. PM Brassmonkey about it. I was going to buy it for myself, but the piping is a little too big for what I'd be using it for. It's full stainless steel and sounds like a really nice system.

Another thought: RB stuff is fairly pricey, can you afford it Rick? I'm guessing you actually have access to welding stuff, etc. It might be a good move to simply make yourself a system. One negative to doing it this way is that it's not gaurentied that the parts you select will make an exhaust that sounds the way you want.

Hmm - if it's gas milage you're after, better get a honda! Sorry, couldn't resist.
I just bolted up the RB cat back to my RB header / cat convertor set up. I previously had a Trust cat-back, which was becoming 'ventilated'. Anyway first impressions- yeah it's heavy, the Y pipe at 18 lbs is double the Trust one. Both systems had/have 18 lb mufflers. RB has a deep, mellow tone. BTW, the header / cat combo passed emissions this year (barely!).
A true dual should make better torque, and we all know that's a rotary weak point.
I've heard it said that they're louder, if that's a concern. When exhaust pulses mix, as in a collected system, there is some noise cancellation through the resonant harmonics of pulses.

Kidding Snrub. I just wish we could have true dino camparos for different setups, that'd be kinda cool. I'm still torn as to what I want to do. No matter what, I'm going RB dual cat back. Just not sure what to do from block to y-pipe.

Mazdatrix has a dyno sheet for a true dual setup. I'm not sure if it's on their site anymore though, you might have to email them for it. It showed about a 28% increase over stock, which is a lot more than I've ever heard from a collected system.
By the way, true duals would be quieter, because you would have a total of two presilencers instead of one. If the sound waves cancelled each other out in a single system, then it's probably tuned incorrectly and isn't making much power.
