Lightbulb Exhaust Bible & Poll

Well, I got tired of seeing all the "WHICH EXHAUST WILL WORK FOR MY CAR?" threads and figured I'd give a thread that might be stickable so all the new guys can get a general idea.

So, everyone, please post your exhaust, your opinion of it, and if you would do it again...in this format would keep things simple (I'll use mine as an example).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Exhaust Type: Pace Setter Header, Straight Piped from there back with stock rusted out mufflers.
Pros: Definitely gives a nice gain versus stock.
Cons: It's LOUD as hell - and I do mean LOUD and buzzy.
Rating: 1/10
Summary: I don't like it at all, in fact I'm going towards the Racing Beat True Dual system just because I HATE this system so bad...I went up to 100 MPH today with the windows down (BIG MISTAKE!)

for my S5 T2, I'm going with a thunderfab dp/mp just cause with a borla xr-1 welded in for sound going to a racing beat y-pipe to 2 matrix mufflers from summit. probably could have done better on choosing the mufflers. you should always go with stainless steel for mufflers (i've heard) because of the heat from a rotary. basically, it's a 3" single going to 2 2.5" pipes to 2 mufflers with a 2.5" inlet and 3" or 3.5" outlet, i can't remember which. I'm hoping to get good sound and performance from it. i expect i will.

Pros: Great sound, awesome performance gain
Cons: Each muffler has 2 exhaust tips, might look gooft
Rating: 10/10- I like the exhaust tips

Exhaust type: Racing Beat Header, Straight Piped to Forza Tuning Cans
Pros: Power Gains, Looks sweet
Cons: LOUD? Hit the gas at about 80 in 4th in a vert and your brain turns to soup!
Rating: 4/10 unless you like loosing brain cells
Summ: Can't wait to install a free flow converter to mellow the exhaust note a bit.

P.S.-Pacesetter header to duel cat.s and stock muffs works pretty well for the budget-minded.

Exhaust type: Homemade header to presilencer to $10 ebay fartcannons
Pros: Super cheap, complete exhaust system for about $250 with shipping
Cons: LOUD
Rating: 3/10 - Not much gains and a whole lotta noise.
Summary: Cheap, dyno runs showed a 5hp LOSS to exhaust, however it seems the car wasn't running correctly at the time and I have not had a chance to re-dyno. Spend the cash on quality stuff, don't go cheap on an exhaust... you WILL regret it.

Exhaust Type: Bonez 2.5" Downpipe/Midpipe mated to Genuine Apexi dual N1's
Pros: Good looking exhaust, retains the dual setup, quiet at idle
Cons: Slightly raspy, token "rotary" tone is evident, smooth 'buzz' at cruising
Rating: 5/10
Summary: The 2.5" DP/MP mated to the dual-tips really help to keep the sound down, even without a silencer or resonator. The tone is pretty good and gets very aggressively raspy at WOT in the higher RPM's. I would recommend the dual setup for someone looking to keep the noise down at idle and light cruising. The 2.5" DP/MP is restrictive in a turbo setup.

Exhaust Type: Corksport 80mm Downpipe/Midpipe mated to Apexi GT Spec cat-back (single)
Pros: The absolute best sounding/highest quality single-exit exhaust there is.
Cons: The exhaust is loud, but not in the conventional sense... You 'feel' it (as a vibration), rather than 'hear' it, because it's such a deep tone.
Rating: 8/10
Summary:The exhaust note is almost musical at WOT, if paired with a turbo, be prepared to change your underwear when you get home. The tone is second to none. The GT series produces the deepest, melodic, smoothest, non-raspy, non-buzzy, non-fart-can exhaust money can buy IMO. Although, be prepared to set off EVERY car alarm that you pass, because the low, bass vibrations that this exhaust setup produces is ridiculous.

Cons: Seems alittle on the heavy side, I need something lighter, single exit.
Rating: 9/10
Summary: Great exhaust for anyone who wants duals. Its for sale too

Exhaust Type: Greddy Power Extreme duals
Pros: Best sounding ive heard. Looks mean and juicy.
Cons: Not super light, but i doubt anyone can tell a difference on a street car
Rating: 10/10
Summary: Best street exhuast. Period. Ive seen practically every combo, and i would still go with the Greddy PE Dual again if i had to choose. Worth every penny...

The problem I see in this is that people are using butt dynos for performance. So in my opinion its posting misinformation. What if there is no awesome power gain? What people feel may totally be different then what is actually happening. Plus people on this forum have alot of bias into their stuff.

fact is that putting on any exhaust, no matter what type, will not net you huge gains.

Unless of course you put on a full system after coming from a downpipe with a plug welded into it.

RB downpipe
3" custom single (with highflow cat)
To some cheap can with 4" tip

Sound is nice, really hear the - bap bap bap bap - at idle nice hum at cruise speed........border line too loud

Er, if you are referring to exhausts on a turbo car with the downpipe comment I don't agree. A turbo cars exhaust has ALOT to do with its performance. You can net 60HP off an exhaust on an RX alone.

Same goes for an NA, ask Kahren . They are choked from the factory. Exhausts are major to a rotary.

I can't see your logic. Exhausts are a key in both NA and turbo cars.

Exhaust Type: RB 3" downpipe to custom midpipe to apex gt-spec catback
Pros: definately more hp, and nice deep sound
Cons: really loud without silencer
Rating: 9/10 would be 10/10 if it was dual cans
Summary: for 250 bucks used, can't beat it..

Hey, although we've had our differences in the past, I must say you've got GREAT taste in exhaust.

Exhaust Type: Racing Beat Header/Presilencer with Apex N1 (single)
Pros: Very high quality workmanship; operates aux ports (on s4 NA); nice sound if you don't mind it loud
Cons:Not good if you want it quite; gets annoying on long highway drives; a little pricey; has large can so you get ricer comments
Summary: Excellent exhaust system, but attracts too much attention. I would most likely go with full RB true duals on my next RX

Jager - fair enough....more so my point in quoting you on the butt dyno thing is basically that:

sure no one is posting dyno charts for each system compared to stock
HOWEVER the difference between having a full system of any kind/combination is so minimal that its not worth mention.

NOW - stock (basically a downpipe with plug welded into, - fair??) compared to a full system does make a difference..................but 60hp? - that Id like to see a dyno on....i mean a TII motor is about 200hp stock, youre saying you put a system on it and you have a 260hp car? that would require a dyno for proof

Pros: Definately power gains
Cons: Kinda ricey LOUD, smooth 'buzz' at cruising, Deep sound at idle, Had to convert to electric ports.
Rating: 5/10
Summary: at the time of installation about 3 years ago thats all I could get, going with the Borla system next w/ my pacesetter header.

Exhaust Type: Racing beat presilencer, y-pipe, & catback, with stock header (n/a FC)
Pros: Easily noticable power increase, quietest straight-through exhaust ive heard, looks nice, sounds nice, looks stockish
Cons: Cost, resonance at 3k can make highway drives annoying
Rating: 9/10
Summary: Sounds as quiet as stock at idle, no raspyness at all, more lower toned, install was easy, everything fit perfect. The presilencer was removed after about a year of use, and I noticed some of the threads on the presilencer studs where broken/missing, still usable though, not sure of the cause

Cons: Absolutely none - except price

Rating: 10+/10

Summary: I've had It on my NA and now on my TII. This by far has been the best exhaust I've seen/heard or experienced.
