what? search button? where!?
rotarys put out an exceptionally warm exhaust, so it is monitored to ensure the safety of the components around the exhaust system. the 3k rev is an accellerated warm up process. rotarys more or less NEED to be warm to operate correctly, and not run the risk of engine damage. This was just one of the things mazda designed into the car to ensure longevity of the engine.
ps. the accelerated warm up system can be bypased by starting the car in gear, with the clutch instead of in neutral

Exhaust overheat warning lights have been fitted to many, many cars over the years since cats were introduced, and has nothing to do with the engine being a rotary. They actually warn of an overheating cat, not the temp of the exhaust gases themselves. Not only will overheating the cat damage it, the warning indicates something is wrong that's causing the cat to get hotter than normal, a misfire or overly-rich mixture for example.
The accelerated warm-up system is also nothing to do with the engine being a rotary and nothing to do with warming the engine up. It's done to get the pre-cat up to light-off temp (the temp it starts working) as quickly as possible to reduce emissions.

Hi guys, I'm not sure if these are the same things, but I'm curious about the red button just short of the hand brake, that says 'Over heat ex(not sure on the last letter) System' It's red. So if anyone, knows can you please notify me, if so what does it do.
Here is a picture, for those who have no idea what I'm talking about.
