Engine wont turn over, starter OK... electrical problem?

As the title says, I can't get the motor to turn over on my '87 TII. When I turn the key it just does the "click-click-click..." thing that happens when you have a bad starter motor.

I made sure my battery is fully charged so thats not the problem...
Just to make sure it wasn't a problem with the battery I tried jump starting it and when I tried this I heard a loud "POP!" sound. I turned it off immediately.

I figured the POP might have been the diode in my starter getting fried or something, and that the problem was with my starter. However, I checked the starter and it is working perfectly!

After checking on these two things, I reconnected the battery, and this is when it really started acting weird! After reconnecting I noticed my stereo and boost controller and door lights turn on and off repeatedly while I heard a relay clicking somewhere under the driver side dash (this is with the ignition turned OFF) When I turn the key I don't even hear the "click-click-click..." everything just goes dead (all the lights etc... turn off)

I guess something got fried with that POP, but it wasn't working even before that happened, so I know it's not something that I did, it pretty much just stopped working on its own.

It's obviously an electrical problem, but I am at a loss to figure out exactly what. Could my ignition switch have gone bad? Is the relay clicking/lights flashing a clue to what might be going on?

Please help with this. This is my first RX7 and I am trying to do everything I can to take care of it and make sure its running right...

Main fuses are OK.

The relay that's clicking is at the bottom of the steering column cover near that little vent above the pedals.

make sure that there is no after market alarm system or remote start system with a starter kill feature installed if there is you will need to reconect the starter wire for the car to start . if this is not the case you can run a wire from the starter at the small "blade " style conection on the starter celinoid attatched to the starter up by the battery then turn your ignition on and touch the wire you just ran to the batt positive and see if she cranks this will bypass the starter wire under the dash and sould tell you some thing . hope this helps
