Engine wont start?
Hello all,
Today after taking finals I could not get my car started at all. At first I thought it was my battery even though I just replaced my battery a month or two ago. My engine seemed to crank but just wouldnt turn over. I checked the battery conection again and still nothing. I sounded just like the engine was going to start but just couldnt get the finaly push is needed. I got a ride home and came back about an hour later, trying to get it started again. This time though instead of the almost normal sound of the engine, it made a slightly higher pitched whooring sound(sorry thats the best way I can describe it). I am thinking now that maybe it is the starter. Sounds like the starter is spinning just not moving the engine. The weird thing is that the belts and fan all move when trying to start it. I am no expert so any help would be greatly welcomed. I would really like to get it fixed becuase right now my baby is sitting in my schools parking lot.
Also, my first fear(as I think it is for most 7 owners) was that I had somehow my engine is blown a apex seal or something. It still might be, and I am really hoping it is not, but I have not had any symptoms of low commpression. My engine idled fine and seemed to pull strong. It is a 88 N/A with 117k on it.
Again if you have any question or need some clarification of anything let me know.
Thank you VERY much for you help

ok,thanks.
As for the ATF, is there something other way to unflood it, it have read that alot of people dont recomend using ATF unless it is a last resort, and I sure hope I am not there yet. Also what lead would led to my engine flooding? This hasnt happened before to me. This was also not a quick start up and shutdown. I drove to school which I about a 15 min drive took my test and then it just wouldnt start up.
gosh, I keep thinking of questions as I write. Would it being flooded acount for the change in the noise comming from the engine. As I said it went from sounding like it would almost start to just "woozzzzz"?
Anyway thanks for the help

the change in sound would be when you had a lil compression to no compression. i rotary uses oil to build compression.. when you have leaky injectors the fuel wipes all the oil off the rotor housing and causing it to have no compression.. and yes driving an Rx-7 for 15min. is a quick start up and turn off.. theres nothing wrong with ATF.. i think thats it.. um.. you could install a fuel cut off switch too.. if you want info on that just email me DJChunter@aol.com

Pull the EGI fuse in the main box in the engine bay. Remove the plugs and crank it over (keep any spark away from the holes), and it should dump alot of fuel out. Afer you've done that, put the plugs and the fuse back in and it might start back up.

Just wanted to add. Pull both plugs, and as some have posted, after cranking with fuse out, and pedal to floor, put a match at the end of the plugs to burn off the gas. Put plugs, fuse in, and wires on, and give it a try. Be certain battery is up to capacity. If no go, and just a whirling sound, looks like you'll need to do everything again, then add atf.
