engine won't idle, coolant disappears and boils, HELP!!!!!

as you can read i have small problems. my 86 na will start up fine, but it'll drop down from 3000 almost right away and when it gets to 1200 rpm it like choke buckle then die out. also, i have a disappearing coolant problem. whenever after i start my car and let it run for a few(carbon buildup prevention), then let it die out. the next time i go to start it, after about 10 minutes when i let it die out i can hear the coolant boiling in the system. now i know there's no air pockets that keep popping up from when i filled it cause i filled it according to the book. and with the amount of extra coolant i've put in the system there can't be any more air pockets, in fact it should be over flowing. my ignition timing is questionable, i can't fix that cause all manuals say to let it idle then adjust it.........well, if i could get it to idle in the first place that wouldn't be an issue now would it??? i tested the coils, they're barely within spec. i have new NGK ssg plugs, i'm yet to test the wires though. when i'm cranking my engine you can smell the gas in the exhaust, after awhile of it running it smells like burn't coolant. so......what i'm thinking is i don't have any compression in one or both rotors which is why it won't idle and the compression loss is due to a gasket leak to the cooling system. i'd have to get my coolant tested for hydrocarbons to prove that theory. does anyone have any other suggestions??? also, it has 155,XXX miles on it. thanks, Shawn

ps. sorry if it posted twice, computers at school suck

just stick your nose in there while its cold. youll smell the gas in the system if its blown. check your afm. that would cause the start up then die. if it was blown, it probably wouldnt even start up.

They will start and run with a blown coolant seal. Take off your radiatoer cap and look for bubbles.

Anyone remember the nebraskan hicks that ran the one rotor to death with the tach pegged? Somehow I just got reminded of that...
