Question Engine Vibration at low RPMs

I just got my "new" 86 GXL last week and it's quite a blast. However I have one concern -- the engine vibrates quite a lot. I was a bit under the impression that because it was a rotary engine, it wouldn't vibrate as much. Of course, I could be quite wrong, but it would sort of make sense. It seems that between 1000 and maybe 2500 RPM the engine is causing a good bit of vibration. It makes no difference whether I'm in gear (and driving) or just revving in neutral (or in gear with the clutch in). I assume this rules out the drive shaft and unbalanced tires (for a while, my Volvo had unbalanced tires, this is very different). Any suggestions?

Also I'm slightly apprehensive about emmissions inspections, as I will have to have one done this weekend while I'm in Massachusetts (car is registered in MA, but it lives in NY). The car passed upstate NYS emissions without a problem this spring but MA emissions are a bit stricter. The car is pretty much stock save for some suspension stuff and a K&N. It seems to run fine other than the vibration and the sloppy shifter (which a set of bushings should fix, however I think I'm going to go the short shifter route once I save up some cash) -- are my worries unfounded?

If she's all stock as far as the engine, yeh, engine or tranny mounts...

If the cats are original, you may/may not have emissions problems...

I see that I can get either Competition or Non-Competition motor mounts from Mazdatrix. Which would be better? Is there a better online vendor to get them from?

Never mind. Now that I see it's a good $15 difference, I think I'll go for the regular non-comp motor mounts. After I check mine, of course.
