engine temp question

When at idle my temp guage is somewhat at the middle. But when driving it goes above the half way point and is 3 quarters up the guage. What would cause this problem? Cause when i decel it goes back down but last summer it wouldnt even go past the half way mark even on long hard driving. Oh and i drive an 87 na with about 189k on original motor heh

Thermostat or radiator. Does your heater work?

I've got the same problem and I'm fixing the thermostat as soon I as I learn how and have some time for it.

If that doesn't fix my problem, I'm gonna have to drive nice until I can replace the radiator.

low coolant level, thermostat failing, slipping belt, blockage in the cooling system.

i would start with a cooling system tune up which is flush the system and replace the thermostat.

do the koyo radiators have all the holes and connectors like stock? So that the temp sensor and water level sensor will fit?

Mine was fluctuating between 1/3rd and 1/2. Replaced the thermostat. After that, it won't budge past around 1/6th.
