engine rotates but will not start; electrical?

my car was running totally fine a couple of hours ago, but now it will not start. It turns over fine, starter is engaging properly with plenty of power. I haven't done any kind of checks yet but I think it may be electrical because when I turn the engine over the needle on the rpm gauge does not move at all, it just stays perfectly still like when you pull the egi fuse to unflood your car. It also seems as though the spark plugs aren't trying to ignite because the engine turns over very smoothly, without any kind of engine movement that ignition would create. I checked all the fuses and they are fine. What do you think? Broken starting circuit? Bad coils?

thanks,
kev

Pull a plug (or use a timing light) to see if you have spark. If you are getting fuel and spark, then its a compression problem. I had to ATF for a similar problem. Too much carbon in my block.

re

it's a fairly new engine so I don't see compression being a cause, I'll do that test though,
thanks

I haven't done any checks yet, but if I don't have any spark what should I check first? The ignition circuit? The coils?

thanks

Make sure the EGI COMP and the EGI INJ fuses are good. Then in the crew compartment make sure the ENGINE fuse is good. A must for starting the car

A look at the schematic above will show you that the 40A EGI INJ is the fuse that feeds the coils. But it only does that if the 15a fuse (ENGINE) called X-07 is functioning and/or the Main Relay is good. The Main Relay is almost bullet proof. The same can be said of the coil assy unless they get monkey fucked with.
