UNdo the harness from the ECU, and pull it through the firewall so you dont hurt any of the connectors. I just took off the bracket that holds the PS, and AC and layed it to the saide, took out the trans bolts, then motor mounts and lift it out.
Removing the hood makes it easier to get the hoist over the engine, but it's not necessary. Put a pad or something over the front bumper you don't damage the paint if the hoist moves in with weight on it. There's debate on whether or not to pull the tranny at the same time, I seem to have better luck pulling the tranny bolts and leaving it in the car, pulling just the engine. x2 on unplug the ECU cables from under the passenger carpet.
It also seems easier to me to pull off all the upper and middle intake before taking the engine out. MARK YOUR FUEL LINES.
