Engine Rebuild Help
Engine Rebuild Help
For the Winter I have decided to rebuild the engine in my 88 TII. Just finished removing the engine and disassembling the core and laid out all the used parts and taken photos of them.
they can be viewed here:

i am trying to see if the parts I have are reusable for a healthy engine or whether I need to buy some new components (housings, rotors)
questions during the tear down that I had:
1. when i removed the lower intake manifold, i realized there were two holes from the rotor housings that mated w/ the lower intake manifold. one was blocked and one was open, in the blocked one there was some 'clay like' substance. (photos 60-68 you can see what i am talking about ) is this normal?
2. when I removed the apex seals, it seemed like every single one of the seals when i removed were broken. (please see pictures: 92 -99 ) is this normal ?
3. the front cover has all these crack marks on it. does this need to be replaced? (see photos : 100-105)
4. from my analysis of the housings in conjunction w/ rotary resurrections "housing wear guide" http://rotaryresurrection.com/2ndgen...ear_guide.html
it seems that the housings are similar to picture number 5 on Kevins site. can i get a confirmation and would you recommend new housings? or can i use these with confidence? (see photos: 111-119)
5. rotors look okay to me, but wanted to run it by the experts to see if i've over looked anything. (see photos 106-110)
thanks for everyones help in advance. I was hoping to spend christmas rebuilding the engine, but want to make sure that i am working with parts that will build me good compression. if i'm going to do it, i want to do it right. please let me know if you see anything in the photos that I should be aware of and replace while i'm doing the rebuild.

Those housings have normal 100-150k mile wear for series 4, are reuseable but not ideal. IF the budget allows then it would be nice to get better ones (very low mile) or new ones, but if not they can be reused with good success. You will just be giving up a bit of compression, especially during breakin. Most of my builds would utilize similar rotorhousings.
Front covers do have rough castings that look like cracks, think nothing of it.
Stock apex seals are 3piece divided and may seem to be broken to the untrained eye.
