Engine Rebuild?

I just did a compression check on my 88 n/a. The front rotor seemed to be ok, but the back had absolutely no compression. This is deffinitely the apex seals right? Also, is it better to put in a rebuilt engine or rebuild it my self? I have seen various rebuild kits for sale, but not many rebuilt engines. Also does anyone have any info on the jspec engines?

I have just about the same problem yes it's your apex seals that went bad. Your options would be like you said either rebuild it yourself or get a j-spec engine for just about the same price as the kit. If you do it yourself I suggest you get 3mm or 3.5mm apex seals to last longer. If you go for the j-spec engine make sure it comes with a 30 day waranty because they will sell you a lemon. Me I have an oil seal problem, I don't have any but the car runs good. The only thing is it looks like i'm driving a choo choo train. I'm going to also upgrade it to a turbo II engine. My car is a 1990 rx7 convertible.e-mail me if you still need help deciding.

if you get the j-spec you still should crack it apart and at least replace the coolant seals.
