Engine Rebuild

How much does a good rebuild on a non-turbo RX7 motor run??? (bad coolant seals) i live in windsor ontario. Is the engine able to be saved when those seals go bad?? How much would a dealership ask to rebuild it ?? anyone know anywhere i can get it done down around windsor ontario region. What should a basic rebuild to get the engine into awesome running shape cost?? what kind of prices am i looking at? Would i be able to rebuild it myself?? any help would be great. Thanx

The engine is usually able to be saved, its not like throwing a seal where the internals get all whacked up,unless in the process of losing all the coolant it did toss a seal, in which case you need a new rotor housing at the least. But usually, yes, you can reuse almost everything in your case. A good rebuild... Kevin Landers in Tennessee has the best prices on a professional rebuild, he's very well respected in this community, and he did my engine () So I highly recommend him. His prices are on his website http://www.rotaryresurrection.com and there's a LOT of technical information there that you WILL find useful. Do a pretty thorough search here for info on rebuilding it yourself, that's a question of how much time do you want to spend, and how much money if you screw something up. Pretty much everybody's prices go up from Kevin's, and his job is said to be better or at least as good as many others who cost more. My experience with him was Excellent.

The dealership is out of the question unless you want to BUY a rebuilT engine ($2500 US) but for your problem there is no reason to do so whatsoever.

Rebuilds run for a non turbo run around 1500, or cheaper, understand though that the cheaper ones normally dont replace all the seals with new ones. If you want to rebuild it yourself it will cost you anywhere from 600 to 1000 depending on what seals you want to replace. Your core should be useable.

I rebuild mine for about 250, but that was because I had a "majority" of the seals in spec. My rebuilder messed two engines up for me so I rebuilt it myself in the end.

If you are new to 7s or need your car up and running fast, you might not want to rebuild it yourself.
