Engine problem?

Hi All.

I dont know if you could help me but its worth a go.

I have just bought a 1991 T2, i bought the car with a possable blown engine.

I got the car back to my house and did a Comp test which showed there was good Compression on all baths.

Now the symptoms are, it smokes (Blue) when you kick it up from cold quite alot (very Visable) and the main fault is when you try to pull away when it has been running for a few minutes it drives 50yards before it starts to miss (backfire and Pop etc) this only happens at low speed if you get it up to say 40-50mph and just get it on boost (maybe 1psi) it will feel like the engine has cut out for 2 tenths of a second then it will pull then die again.

I was set to do a Rebuild but i'm thinking of Sticking some fresh oil in it and some plugs and see if it make any diffrence.

I had thought the Turbo was on its way out becouse of the Smoke (even though i can see it when its being driven).

Now i know this car has had an Engine rebuild in the past and it may have been Ported but it idles quite smoot so it can't be very big, it also has an Exhaust 3" fitted with the Inserts in the rear box's to shut it up a bit.

Does anyone have any idea's what it may be worth looking at?

Thanks

Chris

Well, if the compression is good, that's major good news. Check plugs, wires, TPS setting, and BAC valve for leakage, check all intake duct work for any loose clamps, cracked inlet duct etc.

So a search for ECU codes.....

Good news is that you have an s5 that stores the ecu codes and will blink them at you via morse code through the check engine light when you ground the singal green terminal out by the shock tower and turn the key on (don't know exactly which one cause you limeys sit on the wrong side of the car!!!!)

Sounds like a bad OMP and the ECU is going into limp mode....

But check your codes.
