engine over flooding
I read a thread in the archives titled "How to: Bits of FC wisdom, including easier unflooding" and none of the resolutions seamed to practical. Why would I want to pop my hood every time the engine overflows or prime my gas line whenever I start the car. I think I might have I nice little fix. Atleast it works for me.
there is a line that runs from the ignition switch to the gas pump which basicaly tells the pump to start pumping. We installed a toggle switch underneath my steering wheel which basicaly cuts the signal to the gas pump. when the engine floods I just flip the switch rev the engine and since the pump isn't pumping fuel into the engine all I am doing is burning up the gas in the engine and the car starts after about 2 secs. I then hurry up and flip the switch before the engine cuts out and every things fine and dandy.
If I don't flip the switch before the engine cuts out every thing is alright. I just need to start the car agian because the engine is now unflooded.

Well, that is one way to do it, but an easier way would have been to just floor your gas pedal when you start the car. That is the way that Mazda got around the flooding problem. I don't know why more people haven't heard of it.

there is only one problem. That only works on the s5 it dosn't work on the s4. but even if I had an s5 I would probably consider the switch. Rather than sitting there cranking the engine for about 8 sec as smoke goes everywhere I would prefer a nice clean 2 sec start. especially when your up at the lot and some one asks you to start your car. If they see your haveing a hard time starting your car and then they see smoke going every where they are going to think what a piece of junk. And then you have given rx7's a bad rep

Well, actually it does work on my S4...And the tech at mazda told me it works on S4's, so I don't understand why everyone claims that it doesn't. And 8 seconds is a long time to crank it...prolly closer to 4.

Besides, it's not like these cars flood every time you start it. If it does, then you have some other problems.

To the original poster: what you have installed is a fuel cut switch, a solution that has been used for the past 16 years. Works well, but personally I'd rather fix the problem causing the flooding in the first place.
