Engine is out...rebuild begins

The engine came out of my 87 TII last night...took about 6-7 hours of work to get everything off the engine and to get it out. I'll be pulling it apart this week, specing everything out (I already know it has a blown coolant seal), and ordering the parts I need. I'm looking at this as a great chance to get the car looking like a show car under the hood. Which is considered the best place to get internals from...Rotary Aviation or Atkins? Pics coming...

i havent begun my rebuild, but when i do im going rotary aviation. its only $180 for 6 apex seals and springs. and $1xx for the other seals. total amount spent with shipping is prob under $300 and they claim to be better than hurley.

I used RA when I rebuilt my motor and I thought it was a great kit. Their customer service is also top notch!

i just did excatly what you except im getting it rebuilt for me cuz i honestly dont have the time or space. but it took me about 6-7 hours as well. im sure now i can do it alot quicker as i know about more of the hidden stuff and somethings that would have sped up the process. and it took me about a day to strip the engine marking everything and taking pics, and what not . im not really rushing this as its almost winter and i want things done right. im happy to say that the only thing that broke besides the old gaskets is the 4 way vaccum thing for the oil injectors. (buy or get a junk 14m wrench for the housing ones) i did that ,, shaved the wrench down to fit between the housing and the overlap on the injector and it worked well. but the strip down was actually fun and i learned alot about my engine

Yeah I could probably do it quicker now as well. The thing that took the longest was dealing with the damn engine mounts. I unbolted them from the bottom, and then unbolted the tranny. To get the engine mounts to let go, you have to pull the engine up, but the tranny won't let you do that till you pull the engine forward. I ended up unbolting the mounts from the block and it came out fine. Everything else went better than I expected.

When these engines need rebuilt, what do you usually have to replace on them and how much does it usually cost?

Run a search for Reted's site for what should be replaced. Costs is dependant, how far do you want to go? And do you have the necessary tools? Brand new rotor housings for example are $1000 a pair or more. I've already spent over a grand in tools and accessories alone so far just for the rebuild. Thats not counting my other tools too.
