Engine dieing and clutch needs pumping
Engine dieing and clutch needs pumping
Hey all,
OK having some issues with my S4 Turbo. Problems started happening after a track day some time ago.
First problem, my engine keeps randomly dieing. Doesn't matter at what revs, it will just die completely randomly and car will turn off, like its stalling itself. Car is fine to start up again afterwards, just might need to have the throttle open (not always though).
Second problem, my gears are locked out because the clutch is not engaging, and I need to pump the clutch a few times before selecting the gear. I though it was a problem with clutch fluid, but changed the clutch fluid today and problem remains.
Any ideas??
Cheers

1) bad fuel pump, bad AFM, bad wire, bad ECU. Any more info would help, happens more over bumps, left or right turns, up or down hill, any given gear or throttle position?
2) I will bet its a bad clutch master cylinder.

i can get rebuilds on master and slave for 10 a piece in MN. i think you need to rebuild or buy a new one. engine stalling, i still dont even know... my NA is still acting up like that, i have to heel toe and keep my car going. dont know what the issue is but going to sell it soon so good luck.
look for a dead spot in the tps. the plug has 3 pins when looking at it the lay out is this.
...|a|..
|c|..|b|
use an ohm meter on pin a and b should be 1K at idle and ~5k ohm at wot. open the throttle nice and slow looking to make sure the meter reading rises smoothly.
Also try and grab engine error codes
how to pull codes
if it only happens when you let off the gas completely check your dash pot as well.
with the engine at operating temp pop the intercooler off and open the throttle body all the way and let it slam shut. it should almost completely close and then slowly close the rest or the way. Try this a few times make sure the results are steady.
Random dying is not easy to diag over the internet but this is where i would start.
