Engine codes got me confused....

OK, everywere I searched I saw this link: http://www.1300cc.com/howto/how2/codes.html

Which is great.... Now I know what code 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ..... alll that means. But how do you tell which series of flashes, is which code? Maybe I'm looking at this to hard???

No one ever said how do tell that (unless it's right in front of my face... which wouldn't suprise me!)

Some help for the ignorant please!

When i took the codes off of my S5 i just watched the flashes over and over and over again, untill i kept getting the same #'s.

I took a pen and some paper outside. I made a chart... One for small flashes and one for longer ones..
I put a little tick every time one flashed...

So....... At first i got 1 short flashesso i made 1 quick tick in the short box, then i got 1 longer flashe so again i made 1 tick in the big chart box.
After that 1st long flash there was a much longer pause before the next flash (meaning next code).
I drew a massive line on my paper and waited for the next code to come up. It was 3 short flashes and 3 longer flashes (code 33).

Again after that 3rd long flash there was a much longer pause. I figured it would be moving onto the next code or in my case, back to the 1st code.

I got ready for the 3rd code not thinking anything about it repeating the 1st code. I got code 11 again so i new it was starting to go in a loop.
I turned the key off and then back on again to make the ECU give me the codes over from scratch again. I looked at my paper and new i needed 1 short and 1 long, then a pause. Sure enough it did. I did the same thing with code 33 and was postive it was giving me those codes.

Make sure you double and triple check what codes its spitting out. At first i got confused too thinking it was another code but after turning the key on and off to get it to start over i found the right ones iit was spitting out.
Like i said bring out a piece of paper and a pen and do the tick chart thing like i did. It helps alot. Then you can go back inside and look up what that code # does.

I hope i helped a little. Just watch it over and over again and you should see a pattern soon enough.

A long flash is 10's, a short flash is 1's.
