engine?

Im going to look at an '89 turbo II for sale. Over the phone the guy said it had a new engine put in in '96. Is there any way to tell if the engine is the correct series 5 200hp engine just by looking at it? thanx in advance for any help

Its usually a pain in the *** to change engines between different series. He wouldnt want an older S4 engine. My guess is its the same.

There is a minor difference that will help you tell though. Look over the trailing spark plug on the rear rotor housing, it should have a knock sensor right there. If it was a S4 motor, the knock sensor would be mounted on the end housing, under the oil filter.
