The end all of Cold Air Intakes

I have seen MANY posts asking about cold air intakes, and those way overprices headlight covers with the 1inch scoop that does not a damn think to drop intake temps, so I though I would share what I came up with. Honestly-I cant believe no one has come up with this before. I see ambient intake temps at all times, and positive pressure before the turbos at anything over 30 mph. That's free boost for you NA guys.

http://www.doitbig.org/coltboostin/p...ods/intakemod/

Have fun.

1) Learn basic HTML and make a proper page.

2) Part of above, but...thumbnail your pics - raw they are too fricken big.

3) Take better pics - I just clicked the first pic, and it gave me a headache.

4) It's been documented that the little vent drops intake temps 20F - 30F minimum.
I guess you don't search very well.

Wow, I guess what people say about you holds some truth!

Since you want to play by the numbers-

1) No, dont care to

2) If you have anything faster than dialup, it takes 1.5 seconds to download

3) No. the pics show most every detail of what I did for a reason

4)Ambient temps at all times, and pressurized intake air at speed for 1/5 of what the useless headlight cover costs>IMO useless headlight cover that you *MAY* see a drop in intake temps *IF* conditions are perfect.

As for research, the are 2 RX-7's (one GX-L, one TII) that have the headlight cover, and both said they were a complete waste of money since they saw no gains. the Tii logging intake temps though his Tec III

So, what the ****, you don't drive the car at night legally? It's been proven that "ram air" can actually decrease airflow, and this is clearly not a mod that most people could or would do. It will also look like dogshit with the headlight up and a gay shiny velocity stack sitting there. You going to get a personalized tag that says "cyclops" to match?

AAAAAAHHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Usually I just get pissed off that majority of FC owners in the states are just as, if not more, GHETTO than any other ricers out there.

However I could not get pissed off at this thread because I could not keep from laughing

MAN I can`t believe that nobody else thought of doing this brilliant version of a waste of time intake system.

I suppose with that system you also can get that added bonus of water injection when it rains. Oh wait I got a great new idea for you. You can take your windshield washers and relocate them in front of "The end all of Cold Air Intakes" and inject water straight through their.
Shoot while you are at it you should spray some brake or parts cleaner into the mix since it is flammable and must ad some sort of NOS effect.

Congrats on the new mod and thanks for the laugh.

A bit off topic but what engine do you have in that beast?

I just staying at a Holiday Inn last night...

1) No, dont care to
Ah, so I guess we shouldn't care too much either...

2) If you have anything faster than dialup, it takes 1.5 seconds to download
Sorry, dedicated T1's at work rox ur nads...

3) No. the pics show most every detail of what I did for a reason
It wasn't detail.
The pic looks like you were shaking like a junkie in withdrawals.
Detail wasn't even something I would use to describe that first pic.

the Tii logging intake temps though his Tec III
Ah, that explains a lot.
I don't want to get into what I think about Electromotive users...

You should put one on the other side too. Then go drive it at night and let us know how it works.

holy ****! ^ haha. I was thinking of using 5" tube and going from the TB to the passenger fender, about 2" of tube for an idea when getting rid of the AFM and thought that would be a little overkill. I think my idea was just beat!

To the OP, I like the idea but the reason most don't do that, is because the stock headlights work a lot better then those fog lights.

Colt, it's easy to create a new intake for a car if collateral damage doesn't bother you.

In your case the lighting was sacrificed and were I to try this on my NA, the AFM would probably gag on debris within a day as well (no filter).
Race cars can afford to be so focused but street cars cannot.

Back to the drawing board.

OMG why didn't I think of that, there must be a reason? That's right -
I enjoy legal headlights - and ones that are actually worth a damn and not some fawking autobone knockoff 10W pos fog

FAIL

I am trying to think of a mod that is worse than this, and my best guess is...a roof scoop has him beat, but just barely.

For every piston that goes in an RX7 God kills a kitten...... and RX7 club members will mock you

Not to mention the general cocky attitude of the end all of cold intakes.... hmmm, Johnny Law will back us up here and give it the ole as well.

I don't see a filter either.... I wonder what happens if you get caught behind oh say an asphalt truck. Even a pebble = turbo failure.

Just to cover a few bases here-

Not only are the DRIVING lights I am using legal, they work better than stock. This is just from observing the light pattern next to a stock GXL. Even the owner of the GXl admitted my set up did a better job lighting the road.

As for the intake being a problem int he rain-10 seconds worth of work makes the headlight motor completely controllable by the up/down switch fully independent of the headlight switch.

As for the comment that ram air decreasing airflow-I agree in a poorly designed system where the inlet is in a low pressure zone of the hood, but I dont see this issue. I logged not only 6psi worth of intake tract pressure on the highway last night, but it netted be 5.2 more lbs/min at the same boost level. If I need to explain why this is relevant, just let me know.

As to all the people saying it's Ghetto-Thanks. I have around $3200 total invested into this car (including purchase of the car) and there is no reason it should not make more power than my Colt (708whp) with daily drivable reliablilty. With this, I expect to see 9's, and would like the haus to trap faster than my Colt (149mph).

With the comments I have received here, I can see why this is touted as the slowest car forum on the internet.

ummm, I don't know what to say. I'm laughing too hard to be an ******* about it but damn man!! Not only do you kill the 7 by dropping in a **** motor but you go on a kamikaze mission everytime you dive that thing at night, dusk/dawn, fog, rain and any inclement weather.

seriously though, WTF were you thinking?

I believe this is the worst modification of the year. I will soon try to compile the "Best of 2007" and you will represent "worst mod of the year."

PM me if you have ideas or if you have some pointers or threads/posts I may have missed.

As far as your lights being legal: I believe every state has regulation on the height of the lights. They might be DOT approved due to their lighting capabilities but their mounting location IS NOT.

708HP? WTF do you need that much power for? What compression? I'd love to hear your reasoning behind your statement about "reliability" on a boosted car pushing 700+HP.

It seems to me that a 4 banger (colt motor) will be reliable UP TO A CERTAIN POINT. Once you boost it, modify it, bore out the cylinders, get better pistons, stronger o-rings and all that piston voodoo crap you'll end up with a car that will need to be rebuilt often due the excessive stress of pushing 700hp!

I think our servers have given us the title of SLOWEST internet forum. Our attitude touts us as the NYC of forums.

What did you expect? To be revered as a holy modification guru for installing a 4 banger into a 7 and then removing the headlight and making it into an intake??? Do you know how ridiculous this sounds????^^^

poor FC.
