Emissions Questions
Had to deal with the emissions ****'s this week here in good old MD.
Tested twice: Failed both times.
HC: 1.4000GPM
1st:1.4118 FAILED
2nd:2.6077 FAILED
CO: 30.000 GPM
1st: 10.5723 PASSED
2nd: 9.6189 PASSED
NOx: 2.5000 GPM
1st: 1.1352 PASSED
2nd: 0.8919 PASSED
I did not warm up the car before the first test, and the technician said that was probably why I failed the HC, so I warmed it up real well on my way to the second test. The second tech says that the air filter (Bonez) is what is causing the problem "Too much Air", and that I should put the stock air box back .
My question is WTF?
I always though that the additional air was good. Now I have just done an oil change, and I changed the plugs, any other thoughts on what I could try short of replacing a two year old cat.
thanks

No, that man is on crack. The air filter has nothing to do with it. It almost seems like your plugs are old. HCs up is a sign of poor combustion, or a dead cat. Is your airpump good? Have you tuned the car up lately?
*edit* Damn I need to read better...
If your cat is good, and the plugs are good, then its more then likely your secondary air injection system. More specifically your ACV.

If I have to replace the cat, I'm thinking about getting one just for testing, any thoughts who makes a decent cat, I'll check on summitt racing, but i'm not sure on the on the piping diameter and/or the overall length of the piping.
My thought was to keep the old one for every day driving, and swap it with the tester when i'm due.
any thoughts...
